I only left a small deposit today so not too worried. The car is quite nice however I do want an authentic Mexico not a reshell I couldn't live with it as I when I do one I want it to be standard and not modified. It's a shame however it's better to lose a couple of quid rather than a boat load. Thanks for the info Mick really appreciate it. Now the search starts again for a mk1 Mexico ....... Let me know if you spot one !!!! Thanks everyone.

Put it to the seller that you only think its worth 7k. Point him to the thread here. Wait a couple of days and see if he comes back to you.

Any photos of it in it's current condition?

Join the avo club + put the word out you want a "genuine" mex + quite often they will know of a decent "known" car for sale that has not been advertised yet, i know this happens because it happend to me years ago with a gen mk1 RS2000. keep your money for the right car + dont jump in even if its 7k if it's not what you want.

Wise words from Jon & Lotusless

I'd wait for the right car too if it's gonna be a keeper. £9k is a lot to spend & never be happy with it..

Very worthwhile joining the Rallye Sport Escorts forum too.

Also this morning, I remembered that the car is painted in Venetian red. That ain't an authentic Mk1 colour

I notice the ad states 160 brake @ the wheels. From a cross-flow on a twin choke Weber...ahhhhhemm

I have rung him this morning and told him. He is going to relist it. He isn't bothered about it and proceeded to tell me that loads of mexicos must have been reshelled so it doesn't matter. Not for me though as I do want a genuine one. I will continue to look for the right one and thanks for the advice. I am going to join the AVO club etc to help to find the right one. Thanks guys you saved me from that one!!! Lesson learnt....

I know of a mex local to me, but its got no floors as its been sat on his lawn for years, he wants £6k, that was steep for a rotten rolling shell i thought

But yeah £9k for a reshell also sounds quite a fair amount of dosh to part with, my dad sold his old mex for about that 3 years ago, albeit that had a cossie was fitted, we bought it for £12k, we lost a hell of alot on that

Have a chat with Tim on here or Russ (stringpants) both are in with the Avo club, think Tim is Secetary now, the guy is right in what he's saying there are loads that have been reshelled but the price normally reflects that and if you want a "proper" one then it's not for you.

Yeah

Someone would still pay it though, thats the thing :ykt:

As soon as someone see' a car go for some stupid amount they instantly think thats what theres must be worth, like the twin cams, there was about four up at the same time, all around the £60k mark, just because of that first one, none of them sold

I still think that Twin Cam for £30k would be a good investment, cheap car for what it is, well, cheap if you had £30k to spend on one car  In a few years that'll be worth alot more i suspect
