Mexico Posted July 21, 2012 Report Share Posted July 21, 2012 Ive bought a 2.0 zetec to put on my mk1 escort. Im using a retroford rwd sump, standard crossmember fitted in the standard location. I have fitted the type 9 box and put the engine in the bay. Ive bolted the gearbox crossmember up so that the hole on the tunnel lines up. Problem 1: By fitting the standard crossmember, the sump is hitting the steering rack and the back of the sump is ridiculously close to the crossmember. Also my water rail is up against the bulkhead. Problem 2: Ive bought a brand new worldcup crossmember with lowered rack mounts and now the sump clears the rack. However the sump is very much touching the crossmember and the water a rail is again touching the bulkhead. I have had no luck since classic ford, blew my pinto up on the way home and I spent a lot of money on this zetec setup and ita frustrating the hell out of me. zetecmk2 Posted July 22, 2012 Report Share Posted July 22, 2012 sounds like the rear gearbox mount needs to be raised.when they do fit in an escort using the retro or raceline rail, theres only about 5mm clearance...you must be close. have you moved the gearstick hole? mr zefect Posted July 22, 2012 Report Share Posted July 22, 2012 Does sound like you need to bring the gearbox up at the back had the same With mine sump was close to the sump till i moved in up at the back i also Through the retro ford rubber engine mounts away and Used transit 2.5 ones as with the r/f ones it felt like the engine was Going to go through the bonnet every time you gave it beans. No, no bigger tunnel, no lowered rack, it should all clear ok, u made need a tunnel raiser like the ones retro ford sell to allow the back end to come up a bit more U should need to space the crossmember down either, I started to do all that and it doesn't need it so I put it back as it should be Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
