Your summer starts here!

Summer, what summer? was the cry right throughout 2012 so lets hope for better things in 2013. Our 2013 classic car booking form has been available on our website for enthusiasts to download since the turn of the year and we are getting lots and lots of forms back every day. As always there are one or two changes to the programme which you need to know about.

Thoresby Park, this will run as a classic car/Mini/TVR & bike show as always on 6th May and 26th August, both Bank holiday Mondays, however for the last decade we have run a Performance Japanese and Ford show in late June/early July. It has become increasingly obvious that the majority of participants in this show now qualify as pre 1998 classic cars so we have decided to turn this event into a general classic car show with a classic Ford and Japanese feature on the top field on Sunday 30th June. This means you are welcome to book your car in to three events at Thoresby this year.

Arley Hall and Cholmondeley Castle, or really the Chris Evans effect! Last year we were moved from our normal site at Cholmondeley partly due to the weather and partly due to CarFest North so for 2013 we initially moved Cholmondeley to August, then Chris Evans picked exactly the same date and also moved his event from Cholmondeley to Oulton Park. Cholmondeley themselves will run their own Pageant of Power in June and will not allow us to run our normal May event in case we ruin their grounds, something we haven’t done in a dozen years of running shows this venue. At the end of September last year we trialled a show at Arley Hall near Warrington and despite the cold weather we received excellent feedback from participants and public alike. So for this year we are running Arley Hall on our normal Cholmondeley date on Sunday 12th May and also Sunday 4th August, we know that the latter clashes with CarFest North but all tickets to this event are already sold out anyway such is the pulling power of Radio 2. We will be doing the event at Cholmondeley just once this year on Sunday 1st September, and are sure we will get an excellent turn out as usual on this date. Hope you followed all that because these events have moved around so much I was losing the will to carry on earlier in the year.

Capesthorne Hall, last year our May show did not move with the Jubilee weekend into June but stayed on its normal weekend and are we glad it did as we had a record turn out on a glorious day. This year the show will revert to the normal two day format on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th May with classic cars and bikes on both days plus Mini’s, VW’s, customs, hot rods and American cars on Monday only. For a few years we have been running Sports Car Sunday in late July but over the years this has become a classic car show by stealth so for Sunday 28th July 2013 we will be making it as such with a sports car theme. The show at Capesthorne a month later on bank holiday Sunday 25th August will again be a general classic car show with the usual excellent turn out of Mercedes Benz and if it ever stops raining on this date we might just get a decent day out for everyone. As with Thoresby you are welcome to book your car in to three events at Capesthorne this year.

Hoghton Tower and Bodelwyddan Castle, what an up and down year 2012 was for these two events, the June Hoghton event had to be postponed until September when we had the best turn out of classics and visitors we have had at this venue for over two decades. We will therefore be running Hoghton Tower twice in 2013 on Sunday 23rd June and Sunday 8th September. Bodelwyddan has continued to grow and grow with over 700 classics on site on a beautiful day in 2012, for 2013 we will be returning just one day to this stunning North Wales venue on Sunday 21st July.

Moving away from the northern half of the country we will be running all our southern events on the Festival of Transport theme with classic cars, bikes, Mini’s VW’s Americans, Hot Rods and custom cars. This includes Loseley Park on Monday 27th May, Knebworth on 16th June, Stubbings Estate on Sunday 14th July, Blenheim Palace on 25th and 26th August and Easthampstead Park on Sunday 1st September. In 2012 the south was particularly badly hit by the weather with the events at Loseley, Easthampstead and Blenheim on the Monday being particularly badly affected or indeed called off. Having said that we had a record turn out at Knebworth on fathers day and Blenheim on the Sunday so things were not all bad. There is just one new venue in our calendar for 2013 that being at Stubbings Estate near Maidenhead on 14th July, Stubbings is a beautiful venue with easy access from the motorway network and we have high hopes for this brand new event.

Finally we will be at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern just once this year for our tail end event on Sunday 13th October and as last year on the opposite side of the showground from normal using Yellow Gate as our entrance and Severn Hall for our traders. We had over 500 classics booked in for this event and an excellent turn out of trade and public despite the fact that the fog didn’t lift on the showground until 11.30am. Just when we thought we had experienced everything the weather could throw at us in 2012!

Booking forms to enter your club or individual entry can be found by following the link below as can a full list of all our events for the year. We look forward to seeing you at some point throughout the year, our first event at Thoresby Park is now just 10 weeks away lets hope it warms up a bit by then.

Kind regards

Andrew Greenwood
