johnnyspencer Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 my 1300 engine is out and the cars getting ready for paint, im un decided on what to put back in as the 1300 will not do for me. (need more power) so if anyone has anything for sale id be happy to hear about it. anything considered but im not loaded so cant afford the really expensive stuff. cheers
mk1estate Posted February 22, 2013 Report Posted February 22, 2013 where are you from, are you after a xflow or pinto or anything else for that matter
johnnyspencer Posted February 22, 2013 Author Report Posted February 22, 2013 east mids near nottingham/derby im open to all options, not sure what to go for yet
5tox Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 for nice cheap power you cant go far wrong with a 2.0 pinto, fairly straight forward to fit a pinto with type 9 gearbox too which is a bonus
johnnyspencer Posted February 24, 2013 Author Report Posted February 24, 2013 will i have to cut any of the tunnel out to fit a type 9 box?
5tox Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 no mate, a type 9 will fit but needs a section pushing in (perhaps using a hammer and dolly)
w p e Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 what about the gear stick hole being 3incs further and the g/box mount being in the wrong place for a 5 speed and the new hole comes right were the tunnel strengthener is so that needs addressing . just a few pointers . and to be honest 5 speed gear sets were not designed for english axle ratios there were for sierra /capri and there ratios are different for fast road a 4 speed rocket box allday. check the ratios for your self
5tox Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 what about the gear stick hole being 3incs further and the g/box mount Oh yeah, there is that too
Admin Vista Posted February 25, 2013 Admin Report Posted February 25, 2013 and to be honest 5 speed gear sets were not designed for english axle ratios there were for sierra /capri and there ratios are different for fast road a 4 speed rocket box allday. check the ratios for your self The type E (That the rocket close ratio competition box is based on) 4 speed box fitted in the MK1 & 2 RS2000, the Mk2 Mexico, Ford Capri 1.6 / 2.0 82 on, Ford Cortina Mk3 2.0 & Ford Cortina Mk4 / Mk5 1.6GT / 2.0 / 2.3 has virtually identical ratios to the 5 speed T9. The type E box suits the mk1 & 2 RS perfectly and I've no complaints about the T9 in my RS. Type 9 1st 3.65:1 2nd 1.97:1 3rd 1.43:1 4th 1.00:1 5th 0.82:1 Type E 1st: 3.65:1 2nd: 1.97:1 3rd: 1.37:1 4th: 1.00:1
johnnyspencer Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 it would be nice to find something i can bolt straight up to my gear box, im not all that bothered about top end speed its more bottom to mid range power im looking for. i really dont want to start chopping it up but i will if i have to.
rallyesport04 Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 personally i 5 speed all my cars an fit a 3.89 diff on 185/60/13 it just seems a good compromise between back road blasts an cruising to shows i love the rocket box the most the gearing just seemed to feel right but i just miss the 5th gear on long journeys a 5 speed is a doddle to fit if you mod the gear hole correctly like a rs it will be a tidy job ive heard you can buy some alloy blocks that use the original car gearbox mounts an uses the t9 mount ive never used them myself i normally cut the mounts out an start again cant beat a 2.0 pinto very easy to fit an is a good platform for more power if you want it or pop a 1600 x flow in even less to sort out what ever engine you choose pinto x flow they will all bolt up to your box
johnnyspencer Posted February 27, 2013 Author Report Posted February 27, 2013 thanks for all the info, iv just got myself a 1660 xflow with a bit of head work done and lightened flywheel for £300 im going to bolt it up to my 4 speed for now and see how it goes. ill prob end up with a type 9 5 speed but for now its enough, iv got enough to do lol
5tox Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 Good decision mate, my brother had a crossflow in his mk1 which went like a bloody rocket, pissed all over my 2.0 vaux calibra which i had at the time ...although his engine had a lot of work done to it
