Ricardo Verissimo Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Hi everyone! I'm Ricardo, i live in Oporto (north of Portugal) and i own a 1972 Ford Escort Mk I GT-HC. I have a long history with this car, as i started my driving history with it. My father needed to restore it as an "emergency", because we need a car as we cannot afford a more recent car. I started working and bought a diesel car (more economic) but i was oriented to maintain my car ( or red fury as my friends call it) because it was always on the road and simply keep going. the years passed by, and as i didn't have money to spend in a proper restoration, the car passed from mechanic to another, in order to keep it working. From 2002 onward i keep stored in several garages until i found one were it doesn't rained and properly drie to keep it "conserved" to better days" well.. last month i bought a battery, i ask my father's help and we wake up red fury.. and in almost 5 years, he get out of the garage to catch some fresh air.. well i still don't have budget to provide in a dignify restoration, but at least i can ear the 1300 Engine running and smell the gasoline burning. i've passed a lot of moments with this car.. good and bad moments... happy and sad moments... and this car is a part of me. i'll still have a lot of work ahead. I'm going to do some of most simple tasks to restore him as i dont understand much about restoration. The engine is runnig very smooth, but i'm going to need to replace the exaust pipe near the engine as the one that is monted is simply wrong ( a remember of some bad times) please excuse me for my text and my poor english, but i follow some of excelent restoration work in this forum and i imagine my car like that! as so i'm proud to present my Mk1 GT-HC i hope that i could learn some tricks and obtain some parts for my long restoration, from the members of this forum! thanks

mk2 mike Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Welcome. I've just come back from two weeks in Portugal. I was on the look out for old fords but saw none. Did see a shit load of Renault 4s and Citroen AXs though.
XjamesX Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Welcome. I've just come back from two weeks in Portugal. I was on the look out for old fords but saw none. Did see a shit load of Renault 4s and Citroen AXs though. When I was in Portugal last year on holiday I saw a couple of mk2 escorts, including a mk2 for sale! Sadly it was an automatic and a 4dr though, seemed reasonable price, def would of looked into bringing it back if it was a 2dr Also saw a mk1 Tina (lotus or lotus replica) on a forecourt but was on the way to the airport and had no time time to turn round and have a look (it was the other side of a dual carriageway) also I wasn't driving so it wasn't my call (otherwise I would have spun round!!)
