rallyesport04 Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 ive chopped springs with no issues if you warm the bottom up an bend them so they locate in the lower cup its even less of a problem also if you wrap a zip tie around the cup an coil they wont dislodge or just warm them up like posse says can you buy spring asisters for normal springs i know you can with 2 1/4 the springs never disloge=no mot failures
monkeymoreton Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 i've had cars with lowering springs cut before and that was pretty interesting to drive i would never say it felt dangerous i've always cut the coil so that the end of the coil is in the same place as before.
mr zefect Posted April 21, 2013 Report Posted April 21, 2013 Always cut mine I just drill several holes in the cups Then knock a slot with a flat screwdriver enough so you Can get a jubilee clip through the cup to hold the spring in Both sides top and bottom. As for spring clamps I used to Take the strut off aim it at the wall and undo the top nut Very carfully untill it fires off the top cup and spring and you Lose the nut and hopefully not your hand .
Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted April 21, 2013 Report Posted April 21, 2013 i did a mk2 golf other day i could compress the springs with one hand on the rear lol no need to compress it to change shocks, all i know saxo's ect french cable tie the spring before undoing they do fire off there like 2 times longer when uncompressed. my mk1 springs are to short and rattel about when jacked up lol
BaileyMex Posted April 24, 2013 Author Report Posted April 24, 2013 Not done it yet, but probably will
Barnwest Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 If theyre not fixed in place after being cut, they fall out when you get air...
BaileyMex Posted April 30, 2013 Author Report Posted April 30, 2013 it's only an old shitter that'll be lucky if it could get fast enough to even dream of making air
