MKMark Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 I've just bought an electric fuel pump, to replace the mechanical one. Anyone got any tips for positioning and fitting it.
mk2 mike Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Between the fuel tank and engine is always useful ;0) mine is in the boot next to the tank. Passes through the floor in a drilled hole and runs under the car then back up into the engine bay (following the original route I think). I've got a cut off switch within easy reach on the dash, just in case.
MKMark Posted April 30, 2013 Author Report Posted April 30, 2013 I had a feeling I'd be told to put it between the tank, and the engine!
Fiesta Steve Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Is it a facet interupter ? They are best fitted nearer the tank than in the engine bay. Apparently they are a pushing pump rather than a pulling pump and also do not like the heat found under the bonnet.
Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 yer fassit are pushers an su can go both ways
RossMK2 Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 as said already pushes better. mines on the boot hinge mount. if it is cylinder type put it vertical with removable end down
texr2000 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 as said already pushes better. mines on the boot hinge mount. if it is cylinder type put it vertical with removable end down is this true? i heard this a few places but also seen lots not fitted like that...including mine haha
RossMK2 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 What the vetical bit? If so yes, it actually says in te instructions.
texr2000 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 What the vetical bit? If so yes, it actually says in te instructions. instructions? just something you leave n the box and never read haha maybe i should stick mine on a L bracket then, even tho seems to work fine EDIT: off the web site "For best results, mount the pump close to the fuel tank and below the fuel level. The pump is self-priming to 24 inches vertical fuel lift. Vertical mounting is preferred to assure maintenance of rated pressures.." "The fuel pump should be mounted with the outlet above the inlet. This will help with eliminate vapor lock issues. Never located the pump so the outlet is below the inlet. Horizontal mounting will not effect fuel delievery performance"
texr2000 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 is that within 12" of tank and below fuel level haha bet yours works fine though
RossMK2 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 Nope but between us we are within tollerance It works any way. Reason i put mine the is so it doesn't get knocked.
texr2000 Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 same as mine, engine has a issue with cutting out when hot but dont see the pump being a issue as was fine before and has 3psi at carbs when it cuts out. mine is a little in the way and could get knocked but i cant say i ever used the boot in all the years i have had it really...ever since 2" blocks went in under rear axle seats been useless so norm put stuff there
