Muzzman Posted June 7, 2013 Author Report Posted June 7, 2013 Cheers guys!!!!!! Bought them, hopefully will work out well!
Muzzman Posted June 7, 2013 Author Report Posted June 7, 2013 No, you'll need proper RS flat washer wheel bolts like these, I assume you still have mk1 imperial studs on it? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCORT-MK1-RS-2000-WHEEL-NUTS-AND-WASHERS-7-16-/120844760058?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c22e8b3fa These on order too, not sure about the imperial studs.......
Admin Vista Posted June 7, 2013 Admin Report Posted June 7, 2013 These on order too, not sure about the imperial studs....... You'd better hope it still has imperial studs if you've already ordered these nuts
Admin Vista Posted June 7, 2013 Admin Report Posted June 7, 2013 Yes but that's just more time and expense
johnnyspencer Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 thats true lol makes sense to just buy the right bolt in the first place! derrr.......
Muzzman Posted June 8, 2013 Author Report Posted June 8, 2013 Don't you derrr me young man of course they're not going to fit and when that happens the whole bloody lot including the car are going on ebay and i'll go back to the Germans
Muzzman Posted June 8, 2013 Author Report Posted June 8, 2013 Phew, just checked, current bolts have 7/16 stamped on them!
Muzzman Posted June 30, 2013 Author Report Posted June 30, 2013 This is a comedy of disasters, took the lot to get fitted and the centre caps are a couple of mm too small to fit over the centre bit of the wheel hub......bugger
Admin Vista Posted June 30, 2013 Admin Report Posted June 30, 2013 That's odd, not something I've come across before. Where did you get them from and what are they made of? There are grey plastic ones and alloy ones knocking around
Muzzman Posted June 30, 2013 Author Report Posted June 30, 2013 They were the ones in this thread. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-Mexico-RS2000-AVO-mk1-mk2-RS-Alloy-Centre-Caps-with-decals-/181154194372?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a2da1a3c4
Muzzman Posted July 4, 2013 Author Report Posted July 4, 2013 Going to try brute force and ignorance this weekend, plan is to put the caps into the wheels first and then bolt them on, worse that can happen is I mangle the cap. Failing that will 4 spokes with no centre caps look naff?
Admin Vista Posted July 4, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 4, 2013 Yes they look naff with no centre caps. Have you spoken to the supplier and asked about the problem? Is there enough meat internally to drop them into the wheel and file a bit of the excess metal out of them? Try fitting them first but if it's obviously no good, don't try and force them on till you've tried removing some metal from them.
Muzzman Posted July 4, 2013 Author Report Posted July 4, 2013 I spoke to the supplier, they said they'd never encountered this problem before and didn't have any suggestions The wall of the cap looks quite thin, I don't think I'll be able to file enough away, saying that though i'll take another look tonight. Bloody annoying this
johnnyspencer Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 i think they look better without the caps. just do what u like
Muzzman Posted July 7, 2013 Author Report Posted July 7, 2013 Well that'll be the issue, JPS wheels have front fitting caps.
Admin Vista Posted July 7, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 7, 2013 Did I not say that earlier on this thread? Have you not had your centre hold machined out to fit the push through caps instead? If you haven't I don't understand how you managed to fit them through the wheel at all?
Muzzman Posted July 7, 2013 Author Report Posted July 7, 2013 And they, by the sound of it, will fit your wheels without modification to the wheels as they've been remanufactured for the smaller diameter centre hole I thought you were saying i could use these and push them in from the back without modification to the wheel as they were 63mm, its turned out i can't because the centre of the wheel hub is larger which is why i assume the mk1 is 70mm. It doesn't matter now, centres are on ebay
Admin Vista Posted July 7, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 7, 2013 Sorry, I'd forgotten that you bought a set of centre caps with a smaller OD.

mk2 mike Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 You're having a mission with these ain't you mate? Sad times
Muzzman Posted July 7, 2013 Author Report Posted July 7, 2013 Ha yeah, saw a set of JPS alloys went for £90 on turbosport Oh well i've got my health Just want to get the wee feckers on! Hopefully OSF ownership is upwards from here! 1
mk2 mike Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 Once you get it sorted you'll forget all the grief.
Muzzman Posted July 13, 2013 Author Report Posted July 13, 2013 Well sod it, just went and got them fitted minus centre caps, okay for a temp solution
