Looked a great day. Sorry I couldn't make it :-(

Who the fook let mondeo's onto the showground though!

I didn't make it to the meet but I agree with you. There's far too many 'plastics' that have been slipping into the mix in the recent months. Mk2 fiesta and focus' on the stand at CF this year, I saw a pic of a mk4 escort and some cossies at a meet recently (may even have been last weeks wingspan meet) and there's been numerous pics of mk3 escorts/orions etc on the osf FB page and even on here.

I don't want to sound elitist or arsey but it bugs me. There was the whole debate on here recently that the admin took a lot of time to sort and the vote was no plastic but yet they still turn up despite the forum rules.

I love cossies and even a mk 3 turbo but rules are rules. There are plenty of meets for the plastics, there's no need to dilute the osf meets with them.

thanks for that mike i love the debate about the what you call plastic cars do you know how much time and effort goes into getting ready for these meets when all you have to do is turn up or not. to me if i dont like a meet because of so called plastic cars i would not turn up and not pass  judgment but strange with meets these days i find it so nice to have so many different  cars at meets but hey ho thats prob me the person who looses sleep about trying to please so many different tastes in cars the car scene is about so many types of cars not just one make and type thats what makes the world go around i look forward to coming to any meets you choose to organize in future  .

Have i misread it John, or you getting a tad over defensive with that comment? Personally I wouldn't have the time or dedication to organise a meet on any scale, let alone one as big as wingspan!

You make a fair point otherwise though, i appreciate what you're saying and I suppose looking at it from an organisers point of view, the more cars the better! It certainly looked an impressive turnout during the week! I only went to one meet at the wingspan (last years summer show) and I reckon it was the best meet I've been to. I've seen other's comments on here about wingspan and I know all your hard work and effort is hugely appreciated by all who attend.

For me, I suppose it boils down to wether its a 'osf' meet, a ford meet or just a general car meet. If its one of the latter two, then I apologise and bring on the newer cars to add to the variety! however, if its specifically announced as an osf meet then personally I think its out of order to display a car that is not 'accepted' (for want of a better word) as an osf by the site (and the majority of the recent poll on the matter). By 'display' I mean on the owners side, not the organisers.

As the meet was titled Old Skool Ford breakfast and BBQ meet, I would have expected only oldskool fords to arrive, or am I being too literal?

I wouldn't go to a rugby game expecting a handful of footballers to wander onto the pitch!

As I said above there were also non osf' on the display at CF (no fault of the admin or the team setting up the display, I understand the sneaky little beggars turned up when people weren't looking) and there are pics of newer cars on the site and Retards Club page. This is my main gripe, If nothing else it gives a false impression of the site, someone with a mk4 Orion (for example) might see a pic on the FB page, then join the main forum based on that only to find out their car isn't catered for, and get the hump and a bad impression of the site. It sends out a mixed message.

I wasn't having a go at you John (or any event organiser) in any way at all, more at the people who bring them. The rules on what are permitted are clearly stated when you join the forum, and are on the pages for all to see!

The appeal of osf meets for me is to see cars that you rarely see nowadays, if I wanted to look at a mondeo or a 54 plate focus i'd go stand in Tesco car park on a Saturday morning and fill my boots with the hundreds that are there. Judging by other agreeing comments on this thread (and other recent threads), the 'likes' on my comment above, and the few texts I've received since first posting this, I'm not the only one with this train of thought.

But, like you say, each to their own, if were all the same the world would be a very dull place! Hope to get to one of your meets at the new venue! Keep up the good work!

Yeah as a club chairman of only one model of OSF it's very difficult to organise show stands & specific Capri-based events simply because it narrows down the amount of cars you can get. I know some of our club stands over the years have included an Mk3 XR3 & Mk2 Escort, even a Triumph Stag! I know yesterday I was talking to a bloke with a Fiesta Supersport & he mentioned the Mondeos & I was saying if that's what they want fair enough, but modern cars won't be remembered in the same way (think Corsa & stuff like that) but they're welcome, even though they must realise they don't quite "fit in".

Anyway, was a great turnout yesterday, and although I didn't make Wednesday, I made up for it. Farewell to a great venue & hope the Greyhound meets will be just as popular. Big thanks to John for setting these meets and events up, and looking forward to the future meets & the OSF Summer show. I have pics & vids of yesterday, hopefully will get them up soon.

There are some good point's for both sides of this one but I suppose it boils down to whether OLDSKOOLFORD want to be associated with this meet going forward as it would be unfair to allow the plastic mondeo's etc into these meets/shows and then tell them that they are not catered for on this site when they sign up? The vote has already taken place as to whether to shift the goal posts as to what is accepted on here and it was a resounding NO to change the policy.

I know John works hard to organise these events and MY nor anyone elses comments are meant to undermine the work he puts in but I will quote one phone call I had just a minute ago from one participant from yesterday. "Was a good day but spoilt by the prats in their car's with speakers everywhere" Now I wasn't there but I am willing to bet the thumping music wasn't coming from a plethora of speakers in someone's 105E

I think Mike summed it up well - Is it an OSF meet, a Retro meet or just a place for any petrolhead to meet up. If it is any of the last two, then it should be classed as oldskoolford IMHO

Either way, John has worked hard to make the Wingspan a success and I hope the new venue continues the good work :-)

also may be we can ask people not to post photos on this site too, as it may offend some people. There is a FB page for the Greyhound meeting and they can post them on there.

The person that said that to me this morning is just as entitled to his opinion as you are.

His point was he thought he was going to an oldskool meet to show his OSF and did not expect mondeo's with sub woofers on the showfield. A very valid point it would seem to some (But not all)....

surely the volvo, morris, buick, gmc, chevrolet and dodge should have got your knickers in a twist more than a few slightly younger old fords and a couple of mondeos?

osf was in the vast majority though and it was a good meet I thought

Its really difficult on the day to a) police every car especially when they turn up en mass and B) tell someone who (perhaps mistakenly) thinks their pride and joy is Old Skool according to our own specific "rules/requirements". I think John and Dawn did a superb job and for me personally the few sneaky cars were the absolute minority.

Got to agree Jo BUT Mr Cossie333 has been on every car forum known to man saying that ANY car is welcome, no matter how new it is. I'm not sure if he is known to John but he certainly isn't doing him any favours IMHO
