Jester17 Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Me and my daughter are embarking on a journey to build a mk2 fiesta rally car although iv been in and around cars all my life. Since I was 9 and had many many fords. I'm looking for some good information I can use to help us on our way I have a good clean honest shell. I'm looking to run a 1600 xflow with acp pistons balanced crank lightened flywheel flowed ported polished head with fast road rally cam with heavy duty springs twin 40s usual rally spec exhaust I'm unsure as to what drive shafts hubs carriers discs to use with a cvh gearbox running a slip diff until I can get it running nice then quaif it. Also full adjustable suspension set up and usual rally wheels tyres. Any help would be great thanks
Fiesta Steve Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 You can use all Mk2 XR2 hubs/shafts etc.. as your gearbox is going to be indentical externally to a Mk2 XR2 box, the only difference being the engine..
Jester17 Posted September 8, 2013 Author Report Posted September 8, 2013 Will I be able to uprate the brakes to say maybe rs turbo discs and calipers if I change the carries but keep the hubs?
Fiesta Steve Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 Rs turbo brakes won't fit without fabricating brackets and stuff, XR2 brakes are more than adequate for even the most powerful fiesta. Your stopping weight not horsepower and your car will be light, won't it?
Nick Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 why not just stick a zetec or cvh in? much more simple than trying to shoe horn a mk1 fez 1600 xflow into a mk2. + zetec is easily tuneable and if it goes bang can pick a new engine up for £100 down the scrappers. ive got a zetec'd mk2 on bike carbs, its running about 140 bhp on a standard zetec. can have the 1.1 out and the zetec bolted in its place in about an hour or so. check out xrtwo forum, plenty of info on there
Jester17 Posted September 10, 2013 Author Report Posted September 10, 2013 I did think about that route but more electrics than I would like especially out on a stage if you know what I mean. Just trying to keep it simple for now.
Nick Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 not at all, its really not that hard to do, if u run it on bike carbs, u need an ESC control unit (at very least) off a mk3 fiesta 1,1 or escort 1.4/6, its 3 wires into the original dizzy plug wires, then its plug and play into the engine. theres soooooooo much information on the net for the conversion as its soo popular, like i said, ask on xrtwo. the 1600 xflow really isnt worth while doing tbh, cvh and zetec are easier and get more power out of them for less money, plus easily replaced. BTW, u CANT use a rwd xflow block unless u make up mounts, u need a 771m and NOT a 711m block if your going xflow
Jester17 Posted September 11, 2013 Author Report Posted September 11, 2013 Yeah I got a mk1 xr2 lump. I'm only goin this way as I kinda know what I'm doin lol and I do love the sound of a xflow on 40s.
