I was browsing ebay the other night and was struck by the price people were asking for good condition body parts and trim for OSF.

Made me wonder whether my car is actually worth a lot more if broken for parts than it is as a full car. Not that I am thinking of doing anytmsuch thing, but an interesting thought.

Some people do indeed break their cars for this very reason ... I think that's why so many are targetted by thieves.

its not as easy as you think to break a car and sell it I gave up doing it with my capri decided to get another car and put the engine in it and sell the whole thing when I have done it! there are bits that sell easily but there are bits that you get stuck with!

I broke up my bmw when it started to fail everywhere. I was offered £600 for the complete car (2001 330ci sport coupe) and I got that for the leather interior alone. Sold the wheels, engine gearbox, all the hinged panels, lights, rad and exhaust for a total of £2000 then got a scrappy to take away what was left and got just under £300. There were lots of parts still left but I just wanted shot of it. I still made 4 times what I was offered for the complete running car.

There's definitely money in breaking cars if the overall complete value isn't very high. As Jo says, osf's get nicked for that reason, especially as many of them have Gucci parts

The price of things are stupid! I bought my Anglia thinking it'll be nice and cheap as a first car for when I can drive...how wrong I was, prices are almost out of my reach as a youngster. If I had seen the prices before I probably wouldn't have bought the car and just built a model t or a hot rod instead

It was the price of things that got me into Classic Ford ownership in the first place. Originally I wanted to restore a TR5, TR6 or possibly a Stag. But I couldn't afford it. Doing a mk1 GXL Capri was in budget though so that's what I went for.

Back then, pre Classic Ford Magazine, pre Classic Ford Show, and definitely pre internet forums, there wasn't much of an interest outside established clubs and a few diehard enthusiasts and once I'd finished it, I struggled to find things to do with it. Funny how things have changed since.

ebays a lot to do with over inflated prices ,seriously theres some people who sell complete junk for good money, I recently bought a mk2 heater unit for 49 pounds , arrived completely smashed up and had to spend a fortune sending it back , the seller of course couldn't care less when I contacted him , so had to open a case against him , more stress and time
