RobyMk5 Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 Is there anyone that has an rs2000 in Exeter that I can have a look at the black around the rear lights? I've got to paint it on Saturday and not sure if there an easy way of masking it? Any advice will be much appreciated.
DT36 Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 I am not near you, but these pics might help. I had some paint put on mine 2 weeks ago to repair a very small dink to the back quarter after a builder decided to drop his ladder against it. On looking at the job closer it seems that my car was painted yellow and then masked off to paint the black area. There is a bit of a line there if you run your hand over it, but not so visible when just looking at it. Pictures were taken before I clayed and polished it to clean it up a bit nicer. Unfortunately, I am now away from the car for some time with work, so can't get any better pictures for you.
mk2 mike Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 I had mine done in vinyl. Easier and cheaper than paint. although obviously there is a bit of a lip on the edge of the vinyl if you run your hand over it. 1

mk2 mike Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 Me? I don't do any work on my car. Even cleaning it is a push! Lol. I got the graphics people at classic ford show a couple of years ago to do it. Left the car with them, went for a wander round. Came back an hour later and it was done. £40 all in. Plus I can remove it if I ever wanted to. 1

RobyMk5 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Report Posted July 31, 2014 Ideal, cheers boys. Vinyl sounds like a good idea. Never thought of that. Will see what I reckon Saturday when I'm looking at it. 1
BigBubba Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 Use 3mm line tape to get the contour around the lights etc and good old masking tape for the rest. Because the line tape is pvc you get a nice clean edge. A rattle can of Upol satin black will only be about a fiver, and will do a grand job. 1
