Streetfighter Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 So it genuinely pains me to say, but My 65' Cortina has been written off.. On a roundabout and a doris ploughed straight on into the rear quarter, lifted the car off the ground and pushed my front on into a concrete island.. Absolutely devastated, had it since I was 18, first and only car I've ever had.. CA18DET engine, uprated everything.. Gone.. Temporarily. She's not going in the scrap, no way.. Project Phoenix begins ASAP..
DT36 Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 Gutting Mate. You must have been fuming, but at least you're OK. Hopefully the Doris was too. Rebuild it like the Six Million Dollar Car...
Streetfighter Posted August 23, 2014 Author Report Posted August 23, 2014 I've never been so upset and angry in my life. It's my only car, I use it for work and life. Luckily she admitted full liability to the police and there was a witness. But I can't imagine I'll get even close to the value of it to repair it. 1
nosher 64 Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 That's devastating mate.... But your fine, albeit very angry.. But all things can be rebuilt. Good luck 1
Streetfighter Posted August 24, 2014 Author Report Posted August 24, 2014 Luckily I had some Cobra bucket seats, she lifted the car off the ground.. Had I still had the crappy original seats fitted I'd have ended up in the boot I think..
john_3.0s Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 What ever you do don't let it out of your sight, make sure it's on your property not in a yard else you wiill find half of it will go missing, trust me I've made that mistake myself
Streetfighter Posted August 25, 2014 Author Report Posted August 25, 2014 It's stored in my local police yard, they arranged arranged the pickup and storage because it's so obviously not my fault. All for free.
mk2xflow Posted August 25, 2014 Report Posted August 25, 2014 get it back to your house/garage mate or youl find the insurance company will take it away ,as youl find they now own it till they make an assessment and pay out on your policy, unless you agreed with them you wanted it back , no matter what 1
Benjy✌ Posted August 25, 2014 Report Posted August 25, 2014 I got into a wack with my mk2 Tina and the damage was quite bad, I insisted the car was bought back to my house immediately as i wanted to keep it safe, when the assesser came out I insisted I didn't want the car written off and we came to an agreement! Get on on the phone to insurance and stress you don't want it written off! Even of your out of pocket a little in end, it's still worth it! Worked for me 1
Streetfighter Posted August 25, 2014 Author Report Posted August 25, 2014 On the truck with the front suspension snapped, door damage etc.. I'm going to the yard tomorrow, find out the situation.. Been the hardest bank holiday of my life..
Benjy✌ Posted August 25, 2014 Report Posted August 25, 2014 It is gutting! I know exactly how you feel! going through the same thing atm! Atleast your putting her back on the road!
quickrack Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 On the truck with the front suspension snapped, door damage etc.. I'm going to the yard tomorrow, find out the situation.. Been the hardest bank holiday of my life.. Where's the feckin DISLIKE button??
Streetfighter Posted August 26, 2014 Author Report Posted August 26, 2014 Got her home now.. Body wise it's better than I hoped, suspension wise it's worse.. And she's broken one of my original 70s Wolfrace wheels..
mk2xflow Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 any pics mate im sure someone will have a wheel so no worries there
cdeane74 Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Wot category is it? As said already, don't let insurers take it no matter wot,ul probably be ok to repair and get back on road, keep log book etc aswell 1
Streetfighter Posted August 26, 2014 Author Report Posted August 26, 2014 Not sure on the Cat yet. Most likely a C. The wheels are 13X6, only photos I have are of the ones I've uploaded already, I've been after 14" or 15" Wolfies for the rear, but they seem not to exist anymore..
skeeter Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 Terrible news. Although as already said, metal can always be fixed and you can't. S
Streetfighter Posted September 7, 2014 Author Report Posted September 7, 2014 Figured I'd do a quick update.. One assessor has been to see her. The guy knew nothing, his first words were "Obviously full of filler" so I spent 10 minutes showing him 50 photos proving there was NO filler in the car.. I'd rather it was slightly wobbly than full of pug.. So I'm having another sent out.. Bought a 2nd hand door and it's rough. Really rough. I'm hoping for her to be done before Christmas.
DT36 Posted September 7, 2014 Report Posted September 7, 2014 I had a guy come out last year and assess my Missus Fiesta for damage. Basically, this scrote hit her and drove off, putting her in hospital. He got arrested and charged, but his soliciter was sharp as he knew I hadn't claimed on her car because I didn't want it categorised, I replaced the rear bumper and boot myself. Anyway, this guy came out and was a real sound guy and was into classic cars. He was a body repair guy and sprayer by trade so knew his stuff. He works for www.TecReports.co.uk I will PM you his name and mobile number. Not sure if its still a good number, but worth a try.
Streetfighter Posted November 5, 2014 Author Report Posted November 5, 2014 So this little saga is still continuing.. Due to the extensive modifications they can't seem to get a decent idea of the value.. Well it was a taxed and MOT'd, genuine daily driver (So clearly it had to be of good standard), recently fitted NOS steel rear arches, front headlamp repairs (interior and exterior) and was getting ready to be resprayed 2 days after the crash date, so it had no interior fitted.. Now they are saying because the new metal was different colours and there was no interior fitted it reduces the value of the car.. Umm.. Really?
EscortDan Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 I had the same thing when my volvo was written off, some lacquer peel in places and a different coloured wing as it was going to be painted 2 weeks after the incident happened, i battled it, proved it was booked in etc and they came to a better price, it was still less than it cost me to replace it but but was a sweeter pill to swallow though. Mine was extensive rear end damge so was not repairable, keep fighting them, prove it was booked in for painting, if you have a restor thread on here, proint it out and show them it, it will all help prove and strengthen your case!
colintink Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 Scimitar GTE's ran on wolfie slots, Think the PCD May be triumph though . I have a 1978 scimitar, if your'e local your welcome to try my spare wheel for size
