Muzzman Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 I thought that was an interesting article about fuel injected carbs in this months Classic Ford. Anyone here going to go that route?

I take it they could use your existing carbs, what sort of power gains over just carbs would you be looking at?
katana Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Haven't seen the article yet so can't comment on any conclusions offered but any power gains can only be achieved if you can pass more air through the carb. So if up-choking is possible to remove any airflow restrictions i'd say the gains could be worthwhile. The beauty of EFI is that it allows correct metering of fuel supply to match air volume without relying on the choke to increase gas speed over the jets and ensure correct atomisation of the fuel, if the optimum NA carb choke is a 36mm in a DCOE 45 say, an increase to a 40+mm choke would allow potentially 12-15% more air to flow with accurate fueling to match without the losses associated with poor gas speed at small throttle openings which will improve drivability, a win - win situation IMO. But the carbs do have a value un-modified and there are costs associated with doing the mods - purpose made TB's may be cheaper in comparison?
