mk2 matt Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 what is the difference between cheep and expensive paint? you can get 5lts of paint off ebay for £100 ish or you can pay that for 1lt, does it last longer, better finish, brighter shine etc? also if you use what i think is called a solid colour [ not base and lacquer ] is there any point of putting lacquer on top? ian
nealo Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 You get wot you pay for !!! It's best to get better make ( ici 2k ) is good !!! And a solid colour there is no need to lacquer it !!!
pnwrs2000 Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 IMO proper paints like ICI, DuPont etc go on much easier, don't dull over time and hold their colour
irishtorag Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 everyone hase their own take on paint ici,DuPont, maxmeyer.de beir etc. list is endless . some paint tend to sink in to primer and lose colour easier but paint is paint and you get whats paid for ive used expensive paints and lacquers and cheap and every one has some difference and problems. laquer away over direct gloss sure difference is a flat glass finish is easier achieved with lacquer and future repairs are also easier in the fact u can fade in repair area and laguer again lice base down side is more xpens personally its best to prime and flatten reprime and flatten again as u find imperfections and less chance of sinkage in repair areas
mk2 matt Posted October 13, 2014 Author Report Posted October 13, 2014 thanks for the info peeps have never used lacquer as a top coat, as said there's no need. was just thinking would it give a better shine etc
irishtorag Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 direct gloss is hard work to get a finish on also hard work to flatten and polish lacquer is easy work most clear coats you can apply two full wet coats and if finish has slightly peal on it the flatten with 2000 or 1500 and polish up to glass finish add 10 /15% thinner to most gluppy lacquers and they lay fairly flat
