Hi, I'm 16, almost 17 and i was looking on insurance comparison websites for my mk2 fiesta that i'm restoring at the moment and I was getting close to 3 grand without declaring the mods, I then decided to look for insurance for a mk1 escort 1300 and I got a quote from AdrianDirect which i'm guessing is AdrianFlux and it was 1 grand with a couple of subtle mods and my dad as a second driver.

Is this real? I'm really debating on selling the fiesta when it's done after i pass my test now, as in the long run it would save me money and i would have my dream car! :o

(And yes i know that the fiesta is too new for this site :P )

I've been driving for a year now, and my first car at 17 was a mk2 Cortina 1600E it was just over £1000 to insure! It's worth looking into! I still drive that now and my insurance has dropped to less then a 1000 now! Has a few subtle mods to!

Just bear in mind it will cost you lots to buy the Escort ... was the quote for mk1 Escort online? If it wasn't I would just give them a call to confirm it and check for "small print" details eg. May not be agreed value on the MK1 or it may require the car to be garaged or limited mileage etc.Good luck and keep us informed as we'd be interested to know the outcome .... either car is cool especially at your age

I put down everything about where it's stored and how many miles it would do so i should think that's all, insurance for me to learn in my fiesta is 200 so I'm more than likely going to learn during the summer, take it to a few shows, pass my test and sell it and save towards the escort, i never thought i would be able to afford drive one so young

I just got a quote with my current insurer for once I've rebuilt my Anglia and that was around the £1500 mark, I'm hoping after a bit of shopping around I'll get it quite a lot cheaper!

The car's going to be insured as fully modified, e.g custom suspension brakes exhaust wheels stereo 1700cc engine and insured for £10,000+.

My current quote is around £700 and that's for the standard Anglia at £4000 with an East London postcode at 20.

Make of that as you will, just thought I'd give you some idea of what you might expect.

Oh and buy an Escort as soon as, they won't be getting any cheaper!

Oh and to add to that post, my mate who has just got his renewal for his fully custom 1600 Beetle that's kept on the street in London has just got it for just over £500!

And that's mainly due to shopping around with different companies, so grab the phone (trust me, you get much better quotes over the phone) and phone round as many as you can and then phone them all back and see if any of them will beat the other, sooner or later one will go lower than the rest and it's job done.

Good luck

Search through the specialised classic car companies. £70 fully comp for my 2.0ltr Sport Capri, but then again, I'm over 40!!

Ask for limited mileage, curfew driving and make sure it's garaged, all will help reduce it.

I have insured with Adrian Flux and I have to say they were competetive for me, I am 38 and my 2.8 Granny mk2 kept off the road is £95 fully comp. There were others similar price, but AF are the only ones that when I sell my second car will let me put my NCB on the granny to keep it, most of the classic policies won't let you use NCB which means you lose it after 2 years.
