Have to say a big thank you to everyone who replied to my request for advice and so quickly too! Before signing up to be a member on this site I had a look at others for Ford fans like myself, there was a nice 'vibe' about this one and so I chose to be here.

To Stuartp you have my sentiments dead right, and to Irishtog.. yes that's what I love about my Escort, the drive is like no other. Iv'e had a few run around's to save the mileage on the Escort but nothing even comes close...to Blimey, just want to say that I was told my eye sight problem can't be cured although the drops I have been given will slow it down and I never expected the news I had 2 weeks ago, however I have to deal with it and the feeling's I get from everyone who replied is to hang on to my Escort, to me it's priceless so money isn't the issue although where I live is in a flat with an underground car park with 24 hour security with a fob to scan for access, residents have to pay for this....still not a problem, at the mo I'm not sure if I can deal with that seeing it and not being able to drive it only time will tell.

I will keep dropping by and read what's going on and keep you all up to date as to where I go from here. Just to add... over the years my Escort has had the vinyl roof, a replacement right wing, left strut top and the spare tyre well done, it's never been modified.

Once again, a massive thanks to OSF

Is there not a family member that could take it to shows with you over the next few years? I would imagine the pain of not knowing where it is or what's been done to it would surely be worse than just not being able to drive it? Even if sold to someone that keeps in touch, the contact line usually fizzles out. Just my thoughts. :-)

Thanks for your thanks!!

Forgive me for intruding, and please feel free to tell me to sod off as although I'm a friendly stranger, I'm a stranger none the less (none come much stranger believe me  ) .........but will the problem you have leave you losing your sight altogether or just to the point that makes it unsafe to drive? What I'm trying to get at is obviously a car is made to be driven (there may be some trolley dolly's on here that may say otherwise  :nerner: ) but I dare say there's a lot of enjoyment you can still get out of your car even if you can't take it out on the open road yourself, and if you're interested going to shows etc, there's still ways and means of getting your car there, also you can spot the admirers on the way a lot better if you're not concentrating on the road  8)

No matter what I'd take a good long time to think about the situation and have a period of adjustment, there'll no doubt be a lot of things to think about outside of worrying about your car so if it's not causing you any financial woes just keep it and enjoy it for as long as you can, if it ends up where you feel you absolutely have to get rid then at least you've had longer to enjoy it, and let's face it, it's not like it's going to depreciate in value.

Devastatingly I will eventually lose my sight altogether, this may take several years as it's a slow process, my left eye is at the stage where I can't see what's coming up from the left side so it's yes to being a danger to myself and other road users and besides there's no doubt the DVLA will have been notified by now... saying that not sure if I'm suppose to do that or does the hospital do it?? It's true you say about where or who will it end up with (if I sell) and if my Escort will be given the love and passion that I have for it.... oooh my god just listen to me  whining on...but thanks for talking and I would never tell anyone to mind their own business it's been great to get it out of my system and I'm listening to all the advice that's been given on here. cheers RIKB80

Any time good sir!! A mate of mine had a Stroke, he had to inform the DVLA himself.  As far as I'm aware (but don't take me on my word) you have to inform the DVLA, if you don't, no one will do it on your behalf, but if you crash and the insurance finds out they won't pay out and you'll no doubt get a f**kin from the POlice with fines and bans etc.

Saying that, there's a lad I've met a couple of times through a club a mate of mine is involved with who wears an eye patch.  I don't know him well enough to ask him about it but he's driven off from shows etc. wearing it??

Really sh!t news, but as I said, if it was me I'd be getting as much enjoyment out of the car for as long as I possibly can.

Ha Ha sorry! Madame!!!! Suppose the lovely blonde lady next to the car and the fact you have a user name of Daisy-lil should be a give away for anyone with half a brain cell!!  :dope:

as I said on previous thread keep it if possible and enjoy from either seat

an odd spin on privat land will keep u toped up

on the same note I have a mate with glaucoma and his sight in one eye is 20%

his other failing also . He drives and boats and also runs a one man crash repair centre.

when he has harder jobs in he calls me in to do with him .

his attitude is until everything is dark I can do :)

but good luck in the future and enjoy as much as possible when possible

Thanks for posting this comment, it has lifted my spirits a wee bit......oh if only I was a rebel!! funny thing was that after a few days of my eye sight news I took my escort out...just to enjoy but because I knew the results of my eyes and the fact that I shouldn't be on the road only made me more nervous and was glad to get back home, also a friend has said what you have said about driving it on private ground and as I live in a flat with underground parking on 2 levels I might just do that....to start with.
