mk1luvva Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 This may sound silly but what is the procedure of removing axle. Wheels are off lol. Do I remove leaf springs or are they under tension with the axle weight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
jamie956 Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 No your fine just disconnect everything prop shaft, shocks, brake pipes etc then undo the U bolts the axle will then just be sitting on top of the springs you should be able to then lift the axle out through the side, if there's not enough room between the floor and the spring then you will have to drop them down just take the bolt out of either end. Just make sure you have the car correctly jacked up and supported on stands as you may need to persuade some of the parts to come off.
mk1luvva Posted March 14, 2015 Author Report Posted March 14, 2015 Props off and very limited on space. So basically leave leaf springs until last. Doing full restoration by the way so everything is coming off
jamie956 Posted March 14, 2015 Report Posted March 14, 2015 Ok yer just strip everything and do the axle and springs last, if you on your own put a jack under one side of the axle then when you get the spring undone you will only have the weight of that to let down, What car are you working on?
mk1luvva Posted March 14, 2015 Author Report Posted March 14, 2015 All done mate thanks. Got a Mk1 escort, doing a full resto. Now I can put it on rollover jig
