Ford Granada Automatic Problem

Recently bought a 84 granada ghia x 

The car is lovely, the only slight problem I'm having with it at the moment is when you put it in drive sometimes it's fine but sometimes it'll slip out and into neutral but the leave is still In Drive, Rev it alittle and it knocks back into drive.

Any ideas??

Check the linkage to make sure the gear is selected at the gearbox and also the gear select lever in the car

low fluid level, possibly, it might be worth a fluid and filter change before removing the box from the car, also check or have checked the vacuum modulator.

If you do a fluid change, be sure to use spec ATF-F or ATF-G and not use Chevy spec Dexron-Mercon spec which is non friction modified ATF fluid and causes more slip.
