Danish Posted December 10, 2016 Report Posted December 10, 2016 first ever 4 valve (per cylinder) twin OHC engine............as long ago as 1912! Which begs the question why were we still wasting our time with side valve engines on regular cars 50 or 60 years later?? Very true. My friend has a Lagonda Rapier - I'm not sure if it's 1920s or 1930s but the engine is alloy with over head cam and AFAIK is machined so close it doesn't use a cylinder head gasket.
