Just had a quick look at it and it looks to be a genuine connector, but the cable runs into my main loom in the engine bay.  I can't see any outcoming Grey tails anywhere else in the engine bay.

The car is a 1979 RS2000 Custom.  Looking at the wiring diagram for my specific model, I think it's for the rear fog light switch (item 43, page 179).

Although, you would have thought all models would have had this.

Thanks for the images and yes your right its the rear foglight that was fords quick fix back in the day when the later 1978/79 cars had to have rear foglights as part of the legal requirment i was informed of this today.
