what do peeps know about these engines are they the same size in diameter has the old 2.8

also has any one converted one to carb on manual gear box

i have seen the auto ones have a 8 bolt fly wheel

Posted

The 4,0 ohv is higher and the oilpan is about 10 mm wider but at the engine mountings is width the same and it also fit at the t9 gearbox but this wil be to weak i think , so a t5 will be better , but there a few , and there are 2 different crankshafts a 6 and a 8 holes one , a 2,8 gots a 6 holes one so the flywheel fits.

But on the left side the mountingsholes for the engine brakets don`t at up just one hole does.

The carb pic`s have got from the web.

No it`s on a hold for now , i want put it one day in mine mk1 , with 2 turbo`s or with trottle bodies on it.

I did already weld some nuts to the engine for the mounthings , maybe i change that at the time when i gonna put it in.

The rocker covers fit from the Granada mk3 2,8i, you just need to drill one extra each.

The bellhousing is from a mustang 2,8 V6 4-gear about `77 or so with a T5 pattern.

The eaton M62  i have sold , becourse i needed the money and it is to small , for some power you wil need a M90.

The electric stuff is not mine thing , but with trottle bodies you get a ECU what is to ajust and so one.

The oilpan is allready modived , i have also got a crossmember with the lower mountings for the steeringrack and a longer steering joint.

The flywheel/clucth i have from ebay.us , and i tought i have seen the 8 hole flywheel also.

There is a guy that drives a capri with a 4,0 ohv.

i looked at that you could buy that kit for 8 bolt and use a mazra rx8 of same quality  plate in the middle am i right in thinking to convert to carb possable just use the old 2.3 or 2.8 granny manifold with i think it is a 500 Weber which is for a v8 il have to google to be precise

john has you got engine as it got the hole at the back to drop a dizzy in to or not because in one of your pics it looks like it has a plate over it with bolt

these engines must be some good because they put them in the mustang which is a huge car

Hi Lee , this moring i did pick-up same wheels and the guy that i bought them of , did have also just bought a capri 4,0 ohv with a carb , and that did sit on a  2,8 inlet manifold that was welded into the Original 4,0 manifold , this idea i have also tought about , but that for the future.

I have got the orginal 4,0 electrice dizzy on it , but just what i said it on a hold , so what i to day saw the Original dizzy can build in it , [maybe it needs some ajustment]

With the 2,8 dizzy in it , these 4,0 ohv engine`s seems not to bad the later 4,0 ohc seems not so reliable , no the mustangs got another engine 4,0 , the 3,8 mustang is based on the 3,0 essex so for the guys who have a 3,0 capri/Granada maybe a nice upgrade / check it first your self.

nice pics john and i have a granny that im looking at doing it to i thought it would take a dizzy and i have a spare inlet manifold to play with in pic5 what is the blue pipe coming off inlet do you know by any chance

seams like a simple enough  engine swap for my granny at the mo ive got a 2.9 efi with lume to go in to it but i would rather do a 4.0 i could possible run the 2.9 lume keeping it fuel injected with twin platinum has a 2.9 comes has stranded like that and has better pick up then the 24v cossy lump having owned lots of each

Thanks Lee , i don`t know how much work it is and also can`t tell you what needed to complete this rebuild.

The blue hose the waterhose normal it got a bent cooperwaterpipe , that goes to the radiator.

It can bedone whit out to much trouble and the 4.0 gots more torch than the 2,9i 24V cosworth but less hp only 155/165 hp.

If you got the money there a also for sale a racing 4,0 ohc 375hp complete but that will be some changes at the bellhousing mountings and clutch.

ive got nos lol to big shinny bottles just begging to go in to some thing

because its got super charger i should think it is a low compression engine the only way to find that out is to take the head off and it will be stamped LC on top of the pistion

same has pinto's that are in transits and p100

ive got to do a bit of looking at this has may be need to fit 2.9 heads to get better bhp out of it

Oke , than you have something to do.

I have enough to do for now , first i want the estate ready , and than i have alot to do on the Granada , and there Always what to do on the mk1V6 , and when thats all done i have a Taunus TC1 coupe waiting.

Hi Lee , i been looking at again and if you want to go carburators , i would say go for 3 webers 40 mm DCNF , and than make a plate for it , that can bedone.

Or bike carbs , but what i want do is mounting a pair trottle bodies 50mm with a stand alone computer , just for the injectors and dis coil and such.

And also make a plate with pipes for it.
