nigelghia571 Posted October 1, 2017 Report Posted October 1, 2017 Hi All Noticed a leak of some sort on the exhaust side of my 2.0 pinto. It appears to be coming from between the block and head and running down to the ledge at the bottom of the block. I cannot decide if it's oil or coolant. Only in a couple of places. Don't seem to have any other running issues. Can any one help with some checks to carry out? Suspect it might be the head gasket. The car does very few miles. Thanks Nigel

As Del says I would be checking the rocker cover first though. While it may look like the oil is collecting at the point between the head and block its amazing how leaks from the rocker cover manage to find their way everywhere else. There are just so many ways that the rocker covers seem to leak. Uneven tightening of the nuts will do it as it can buckle the thinly pressed rim. On the earlier thing rimmed covers you often get the gasket simply moving half a centimetre inward out of place leaving no seal at that point. Then lets not get started trying to get a permanent seal up and over the cam pulley bearing tower. Definitely check that gasket first before you take the head off.
