hooligan Posted January 21, 2019 Report Posted January 21, 2019 This XR2 was my minter, 41,000 miles when I bought it at the age of 18, fitted the last available genuine ford central locking kit and electric windows. also fitted new 7 spoke RS wheels,3 spoke RS steering wheel, RS turbo recaros, think it was zelda trim with the blue and red dots and had the rear sear covered in the same and door cards, car was absolutely stunning and under the bonnet was the same, 2nd gear synchro started playing up so I removed the gearbox, spent a fortune on all the parts to rebuild it but then it became noisy, didn't like new bits mixed with old so I fitted a low mileage XR2i gearbox which gave another 500rpm.

hooligan Posted January 21, 2019 Author Report Posted January 21, 2019 Next was my Q plate RS turbo fiesta, never did get the real story why it was on a Q but it had rs00011 etched on all the windows and had roll cage holes in the boot, maybe some sort of ford training car or skid pan car maybe ? but it was only 2 years old when I bought it from a car auction. owned this when I aged 21, I fitted 17" OZ five spokes, a K & N cone filter kit, superchips 185hp,front and rear strut braces, Cosworth front bumper lip, genuine ford rear spoiler. Also fitted over £3000 worth of stereo all SONY, remote control, 10 stack CD player ,crossover,2 x 10 inch JBL subs, 10 speaker system, all wired with proper monster cable with gold connections, loved the stereo in this car , it was close to blowing the rear window out, maybe why my left ear plays up. Was a really good car and only let me down once after I chipped it when the fuel pump packed up, couldn't handle the extra horses, owned it for just over 4 years

hooligan Posted January 21, 2019 Author Report Posted January 21, 2019 Then I bought another XR2 when I was 28 and this needed work because they were getting old, it was rusty in the usual areas, the day I bought it I drove it around a mates house to go out clubbing and it dumped it's engine oil because of crankcase pressure over the exhaust manifold and caught fire, managed to put out the flames with my brand new lime green Ralph Lauren shirt. done all the body work and welding, then removed the engine and had everything lightened and balanced, 285 pipercam, double valve springs, Vernier kent timing wheel, uprated clutch, 4 branch manifold, facet reg and fuel pump with a brand new set of twin 40's , once I ran the engine in for 450 miles with running in oil, the car was an absolute rocket, spax all round with front and rear strut braces, xr3i steel wheels with 50 series tyres. a bit of a late 90's sleeper, standard RS turbo eater ! was a lot of fun...
hooligan Posted January 21, 2019 Author Report Posted January 21, 2019 After this I had a really nice series 1 RS TURBO that I completely rebuilt with all genuine ford parts, but don't have a single photo C909WRU, when I sold it the guy crashed it and the engine was removed and then fitted with a series 2 engine, about 3 years later I see it out on the road but i've not seen it since. I then had a few cars in between but not fords then a 1991 mk5 RS2000 came up for sale with a genuine 66,000 miles , full ford history, but now being 2004 and the car was now 13 years old it needed rear wheel arches and inner seals, this I kept standard, apart from removing the EGR system and changing the wheels for 17's, I found this comfortable to drive but a bit boring, preferred an XR2 all day long over the RS2000, best handling was the RS turbo fiesta and had very little body roll, easily would lift the o/s/r into a roundabout, but my favourite all rounder was my Series 1 for drive, old skool turbo lag performance and looks , can't believe I sold it for £2500 just before the values started to rise. 1

No you are right when I look back I would have kept the original wheels but they were badly corroded on the machined finish and I could bring myself to polish them

I only ever went to the Thurrock lake side cruise until they shut it down, got the clutch too hot and warped the flywheel on the rs fiesta turbo at the Thurrock cruise ? had to fit a new flywheel and clutch kit when I got home and it had that horrible belt driven mechanical ABS

I had a proper sign guy do it, took him all day, had to be good with a knife because he cut them on the car? on the way home I pulled by the police, said that the stripes were the reason why he pulled me over for a vehicle check over? because it stood out like a sore thumb and he made me sit it the back of the patrol car like a criminal why he looked over it, I think I pi##ed him off because I never removed my sunglasses the whole time and he couldn't find a thing wrong with it. The 3 spoke rs fiesta wheels were a piece of cake to clean though 1
