I am hoping for some help on how to remove the recliner knob form an Australian RS2000 Scheel seat, as also used on the Australian Ford Falcon Cobra, then later a fairly similar seat for the HDT Brock Commodores

The Australian RS2000 seats are different from the UK RS2000, which were Recaro it seems, but probably similar to other Scheel 203 90018 models?

I have one early seat, with the lower tilt control, where the recliner knob has broken off, by the PO, and I don't want this to happen to my next one.

I suspect it pulls straight off in theory but want to check first.

Also, any change with the original Scheels and the ASS 203 seats?  My second seat is the later ASS 203 seat. Does anyone know if there are any differences at all ? Mine has larger side bolsters, which blends well as this is the drivers one, otherwise seems the same from a quick look

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Patrick

Sorry I meant to reply to this post earlier. UK RS2000s did have Scheel seats like the Australian ones just that in their higher trim custom version (which we never got) they used Recaros instead. There are some mechanism changes with the Australian versions though which seemed dependant on supply direct from the factory to Ford Australia rather than mimicking that of Ford Europe. Given Ford Australia offered a 4 door derivative this should have eliminated the need for the tilt forward mechanism however I have seen 4 doors with tilt forward seats so there is no consistency to say that all 4 doors had different seats I think they fitted whatever they had and if they only had tilt seats for a 2 door they put them into 4 doors as well if that's all they had. I have even heard it said all 4 doors have tilt mechanisms although I have seen an example which suggests otherwise. With tilt levers you have the more widely seen side tilt lever on the side upright as you have in the stock photo above then also a not as common early lower type at the join between the upper seat and the base. I haven't seen this type in a UK car but it may exist.  I have read forums which claim that the lower tilt lever arent original Australian RS seats when in fact they are with many believing the tilt lever was always on the side. It sounds like you have one of each type instead of a matching set?

Can you post an image of the damaged recliner wheel? The recliner wheels look similar on the hand-grip side but once off its hard to say if they are completely interchangeable but on mine with the lower tilt lever they have a very Escort generic recliner wheel look about them. Given the random variations it may be a case to take the broken one off and match it to something you can find online. Having two different tilt types though would probably make me want to find a matching seat rather than fix a different one but they are getting very scarce these days so you may not have much choice even for the short term.

If you are still struggling with this (and assuming it is the same as the Scheel seats in my RS1600i) it ‘just pulls off’ as you say. I put that in inverted commas as they can be bloody hard to budge. Gently warming the plastic sometimes helps.
