Mk1 Escort 1100.......Proper Pictures!

Recommended Posts

Realized today, that since finishing the 1100 this year, id never really got round to taking any decent shots of the finished product, so today I had a free afternoon, the sun was out and had some fuel to burn, so I went out in search of a nice spot to take some piccies :thumbsup::thumbsup::beer:

Only taken me 5 months to finish the front end off, but seens the horn decided to stop working (now diagnosed as the button on the stalk, as the horn works fine when tried sepperate  ) and I had the grille off, i thought now would be the perfect time to do it, didnt want to take it off just to do it, as the grille tends to be tight against the wings, and ive already caught it once  So just wanted to do it whenever the grille had to come off

And also the car isnt being used for a few days as the dynamo' not working, got a replacement today, it will be being fitted saturday. So thought i've gotta do something to make the day pass

So yeah i blacked out behind the grille, like some of the AVO cars i think it was? Seen here:

Mine was probably done alot more half arsed, as i masked it out and just used satin black, but its behind the grille, so wasnt too fussed as to how neat or accurate it was, just looks better :mrgreen:

Looks great. Not a fan of Tawny, but got to say it looks fabulous on your car. Would look the nuts slammed on some Lotus steels too. :ykt:

Cheers mate, when i first bought it I hated the colour, was gunna change it to Le Mans green as thats gotta be my dream coloured Mk1, but as it was already tawney inside etc. It was just alot easier to repaint it original colour, the colour has grown on me now, probably as there arent many around, although saying that was parked by 2 other Tawney Mk1' at Classic Ford Show

But yeah, as for the car, the dynamo charging problem was fixed last week, then wednesday my engine mount decided to snap in half, so that was changed yesterday, and whilst fixing that we found a fuel leak from the carb, got it home quick and went and picked my new carb up last night from a mate, so thats going to be fitted this afternoon, hopefully all the problems sorted for now :lol:

Glad i found it yesterday and not enroute to the summer show next sunday, that could of ended horribly :shock:

Then went this morning to get the nuts, these are being fitted at the weekend, and hopefully will last long enough so I can use them on the new engine too :thumbsup::thumbsup::beer:

Not many people are

Even ive started to go off them, especially when they were causing me agro after being in and out a couple of times  Couldnt get the drivers side top bulb to stay in, everytime I put the light back into the bowl, they stopped working, managed to sort it, and they've been alright since

If they start doing it again, they are coming out  Quite like the golf cross hair lights

Yeah it is, the thing is, you have to split the sidelight wire into two, for the bulb at the top and the bulb at the bottom, thats easy and is working perfect, its the way the two bulbs fit into the light itself that messes it up, the holder is obviously smaller than the bit with the bulb in, so it stays in the light, but as soon as you put it through the hole, it pop the bulb out

Its alright for now though, just means if i do ever change it, ill have to rewire it again to suit one sidelight wire :thumbsup: No big job i suppose

Couple more jobs done this week, seens its gone cold all of a sudden, I thought rather than wait til the salt hits the roads to waxoyl my car, id do it now. All I could find in the garage was used engine oil, so just gave it a quick brush with that until I get some waxoyl  But went out today in the rain, and its all stayed on, so should be ok for now :thumbsup:

And also, a couple of months back i bought some 1.3 Mk1 front struts, for my disc brake upgrade, I figured the engine was only going up to a 1300, so these should be fine, got all the seal kit, got my lowered springs (-2") and the inserts are fine

Havent got round to fitting them all together yet, but figured, seens the engine has about 70-80bhp, i might need a bit more help, so got these :thumbsup:
