Bit of a late intro this...
Many years ago, I spotted this in WH Smith...
I'd fallen in love. Back then I was into other things - I had an Escort RS Turbo, Cavalier GSi 2000, and had just picked up a Fiat Coupe Turbo (ah, the joys of living with parents and having loads of disposable income! Anyway, I asked around and discovered this a few miles away. It had a 2.1 pinto, twin 40's, and fishnet Recaros, plus was quite solid. I seem to remember paying £700 for the lot! That was in 2002 though I think...
However, it came with a load of tins of Olympic blue, so at first that's what colour it was painted...
However unluckily (or luckily?) the paint reacted, so it had to be stripped back again, and I was forced to buy new paint. Le Mans it was then! Unfortunately I was a bit too daft back then, and knew nothing of carbs - I thought they were for old men and would be a pain, so I sold the engine and carbs, and set about fitting an EFi Pinto from a Granada!!!
Anyway, during the build, I moved house, bought some more cars, and just got disheartened with it, so sold it on as a project...
Anyway, 10 years later and I bought myself another Mk1 in Ermine white, but still longed for that Le Mans green Mex... and thanks to Gordy and Stew, I brought this home one Saturday back in Jan...
It's lovely! Genuine '73 Mex, pretty standard bar a K&N filter, and it drives beautifully! For the first few weeks I used her most days, even when the weather turned fun...
Only plans for now are to replace those mirrors, change the 65-profile tyres, and maybe fit my Lotus steels.
Anyway, this is how she was when I bought her:
First up, I fitted a replica Springalex, though I've since picked up an original...
Then I swapped the Mk1 RS wheels off my white one onto her as she was bought with Mk2 ones on...
