  1. only two weeks left to enter your car in this event. Top manufacturers entered so far, in order of number of cars are MG, Aston Martin, Jaguar
  2. Shame you can't make it but thanks for commenting. Derek Mathewson told me yesterday that the winner of his prize will be interviewed and appear on an episode of Bangers & Cash.
  3. Please note that the daytime VIP tickets have sold out. There are still spaces to display your car, for £15 + £8 for additional passengers. Dinner tickets are still available but selling quickly. The largest group of cars attending is currently Aston Martin followed closely by MG. Not many Fords. Any reasons why? Any feedback is welcome
  4. Derek Mathewson, of "Banger & Cash" and "Mathewsons Classic car Auctions" fame, will be at the Lord's Taverners Classic Car and Cricket event in Cheltenham on 2nd August. Derek will be judging the cars and awarding the prizes. Derek has very kindly donated a prize of a day at one of the Mathewsons auctions, on auction day, with the opportunity to auction off several of the lots. So come and show your car, meet Derek and watch the fantastic cricket match between The Lord's Taverners Vs Gloucestershire sporting legends. Confirmed so far are David Gower OBE, Mike Gatting OBE, Andrew Caddick (LT Capt), Martyn Ball (legends Capt), Monty Panesar, John Lewis, Mark Alleyne & Tim Munton There are only 26 VIP packages left for the afternoon session but there is still plenty of capacity for the Car show which includes access to watch the cricket. message me for more details and to book spot at this unique event
  5. Announcements for this event - Mike Gatting, ex England Captain who led England to win the ashes in Australia, has confirmed he will be our guest speaker at the evenings Dinner. He will join David Gower, during the day, in the Lord's Taverners marquee and around the ground. Andy Caddick will captain the Lord's Taverners team and Martyn Ball will captain the Legends team
  6. Have a great show all of you that are going. I would have loved to come but had an operation today and can't make it. No Fords have booked for the event I'm running in Cheltenham on August 2nd although I only posted to this ford forum so maybe I need to spread my net a bit wider. cheers Paul
  7. A good mix of cars have entered already across quite a broad range of years. MG have booked the most cars, so far, with Aston Martin close behind. Ford owners are either less interested, than most other marques, or slow off the blocks and will come onboard a little nearer the event. Not one Ford yet, apart from my own. I will definitely have a good day and look forward to seeing an entertaining cricket match, viewing cars I've never seen before and socialising with friends, new and old.
  8. I'm getting asked if people can just bring cars to show. The answer is yes, It's £15 to display a car which also gives access for one person to watch the cricket. Additional passengers pay £8 or £5 for concessions. The VIP packages are for those who want to splash out and enjoy time amongst the Lord's Taverners and professional cricket players and have a slap up lunch and afternoon Tea.
  9. If you like Classic Cars or Cricket or both then here are details of a unique event taking place in Cheltenham on 2nd August. This is a Lord's Taverners event and all proceeds will be used to give young people a better future through the range of support provided by this fantastic charity. There are already many different classic cars registered and we welcome any make or age from Vintage, classic or modern classics. So book your car in and come and watch some entertaining cricket involving so many celebrities and sporting legends. Also there are some excellent, cost effective, sponsorship and or exhibiting opportunities. There is a Lord's Taverners Marquee for the players and the sponsors and their guests. please message me if you want further details or follow this link https://www.lordstaverners.org/events/cricket-golf/cricket-classic-cars/ LT official cheltenham Flyer V1.pdf SponsorshipPackage.pdf
  10. Hi Ray, It was great to meet you on the stand at the NEC. Thanks for your time and the chat and the introduction to David (I think I've remembered that right). our chat definitely made we want to join this forum and I'm enjoying browsing it when I get a spare moment. The plot thickens with the olympic blue so I'll keep investigating. cheers. Paul
  11. great for a man cave but surely the Missus wouldn't mind it as a centre piece in the living room
  12. Thanks Yellow Taxi. interestingly the V5 shows it as a green car but I can't find a trace of green paint on the car, even under the window seals. I mentioned this at the stand in Birmingham and learnt that the original registration was, in the old days, always completed by the dealer and it wasn't unusual for a colour blind dealer to write blue for a green car as they are both in that spectrum.
  13. I bought the Capri 280 Brooklands for quite a bit less than the "estimate" and the limit I set myself. The auction was very well attended and I was surprised how many cars sold for less than the lower estimate figure. saying that there were a few that exceeded the estimate like the 1986 Sierra RS Cosworth that sold for £118,000 + fees of 15%
  14. Forgot the pictures of my car. It was 3am when I finished my first joining post, after a long day at the classic car show, and forgot about adding a few pics of my car. The ones I'm attaching are before I started the finer detailing, which will be finished this week, so I'll add a few more pics later in the week. loving the site.
  15. Hi Old skool ford members, I had the pleasure of meeting David on the Oldskoolford stand on Friday at the classic car show and had a very friendly, interesting and informative discussion mostly about square headlights for my Mk1 Escort and finding out the early history of my Escort. This discussion has attracted me to join the site. I was fortunate enough today to acquire three reasonably good square Mk 1 Escort headlights via a small stall in the motor jumble hall of the show so that means I do not need to follow that subject up further for the foreseeable future. My next goal is finding out history on my 4 door 1970 Mk1 Escort 1100 Super, Registration number JEV 491H and was wondering if any members knows of this car. So far I know this:- It has spent much of the last 16 years, probably more, off the road. MOT in April 2006 shows 9,268 Miles on the clock and all travel since then seems to be to and from the mot centre only. In may 2013 it had a disaster of an MOT fail and was not retested (mileage was 9,285) It was put back on the road in July 2020 and a massive upgrade to the car was undertaken which also dealt with the many issues in the 2013 MOT upgrade work carried out:- 205 Block 2.0 L Pinto engine installed with type 9, 5 speed gearbox World Cup crossmember Burton RS2000 front springs Group 2 short steering couple2 inch lowering blocks with single leaf rear springs new tyres, electronic ignition & starter motor new rear wheel cylinders, shoes, fitting kit Mexico pattern wings Total Respray, including engine bay and boot, in Olympic Blue Mexico decals used to match 4 door shell After completion of all works I bought the car in May 2022 and recently had it in Cotswold classic car restoration ltd for further fettling, to bring it up to the standard I wanted, and to get my own MOT which it passed, after failing because one headlight was pointing low (annoying). It drives and handles well and looks great just in time to garage it for the winter. The current mileage is 9,303 I bought a 1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands today, in Brooklands green and with 52,000 miles. I couldn't resist it! I look forward to spending time on this forum and hearing from anyone with information on my Escort JEV 491H thanks Paul
