Thoroughly enjoyed reading that mate, some brilliant photos! Proper good road trip. -
Where I can find some valve springs for a standard 1300 xflow? There's some on ebay but not sure of mileage. cheers all.

hadn't thought of any of those! How can I test the plugs? If it's not getting fuel up is right to assume it's the fuel pump, if that's not a stupid question?? thanks for your help.

Evenin Does anyone have any ideas which might shed a bit of light on this. my mk2 escort won't start. Tried everything i can think of, checked points, new distributor, new leads, new battery, cleaned and set plugs, starter motor is fine. It turns over, isnt sluggish, but won't quite catch and fire up. It was fine one day then next day just won't fire. It's properly doing me head and giving me a half hour walk to work which isn't pleasant. Anyone any ideas or had similar problem? Could it be the coil?? cheers all

I've got problems with a leak on my mk2 escort and having replaced the windscreen rubber at the front it hasn't helped. It's happened before and i had to take the whole of the dash, centre console, heater, stereo etc out and reach right up behind the dash to that round bulbous bit at the top of the bulk head where the heater fits in. I fillered it about 4 years ago but it looks like it's leaking again. Thing is as you look at it from the front of the car with bonnet up it's the semi dome bit right at the back of the engine compartment, with a hole at the bottom for the water to run down the back of the engine. I would much rather cut it out and then weld up the rot from the outside as this would be much better than taking all the dash out AGAIN. But is that dome bit essential for anything other than channeling water? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

They all look quality! Can't miss a chance to big up the 4 doors! Here's mine taken in last 6 months, one's photo of a photo.

At the start of march i drove like a nob and did this Was absolutely gutted as had just had it resprayed but following two weekends and a few days, plenty of chocolate digestives and shit loads of tea and beer me and my dad finished it yesterday! It looks straight again. 3rd front panel of it's life. Well happy. Just in time for the nice weather! Might try and get to some meets aslong as i don't bend it again! Oldskool fords ARE bomb proof. Fact.

Hiya mate I take mine to a place called Betacar Care in Kidderminster for it's annual MOT, if that's not too far. I've never had any work done there but he's always done my MOT's. My dad's been taking his there for years and one of the guys was restoring an old Jag in one part of the garage. Really nice bloke who knows his stuff. As I say, i've never had any work done but he's a decent chap who appreciates decent metal.

A bloke in a white van caught my back corner driving across behind me when i was stuck in traffic. He took off and i gave chase , little did he know he was simply giving me an excuse to live out a childhood dream of being in the Dukes of Hazzard. After chasing along tracks and car parks he doubled back and pulled in, i climbed out my window and we looked at the damage. In the cold light of day all he'd done was caught my trim and slightly bent the bumper bracket but he'd told his company i had rolled into him. Knobend. I rang up and tried to get them to pay for a new bumper but decided there was no point as pulled the bracket back out. Sounds like you'll have more joy mate, hope it works out for you. Don't give up on it.

(antz: think we've got identical cars!) Jump in a 1.3 ghia and wallow along in the 70's comfort. You'll hit a speed bump and still be bouncing up and down a mile down the road, then when it's a bit damp you might get a little bid sideways but nothing to cause brown cloth, just cause a big smile.

I don't know whether i can face repairing the front of my escort AGAIN after only just having it resprayed and sorted, so was wondering before i get the bits, roll my sleeves up and talk nicely to my dad i'm thinking about getting a quote just to see if it's worth getting it done by someone else. So if anyone could recommend a really good bodyshop for mk2 escorts in the south west london, surrey area i'd be much appreciated. The one time i took it in to a garage toget any work done they did a f***in awful job so i'm a bit protective about letting anyone else work on it. cheers all

rebuidling the front end for the first time in the winter without a garage, lying in puddles getting shocks off the welder and setting myself on fire but not realising cos i was so cold anyway.

After two and a half years rebuilding my escort after an accident on the m25 in 2004 me and my dad got it all resprayed and in october my sister used it as her wedding car. It's my daily drive so the rebuild took a long time because we had to do little bits here and there. Was well chuffed with it when it was finished. Then this morning i was behind someone at a roundabout, both looking at the traffic, looked back at the car in front and they were pulling away, looked back and it was clear started pulling away and wallop. Shunted the car in front. Couldn't believe it, i was certain they'd gone. Front panel's gone, think passenger side wing has too, not sure about slam panel. So f**kin gutted. Gonna have to do all that work again, such a careless thing to do.

So i broke down this morning. It's been mis-firing for ages after a long stint on a fast road when the throttle's been open for a while. I checked everything, but couldn't work out what it was having just put new points on, HT leads, and a set of plugs for the winter. Anyway i twiddled some stuff and was pretty sure it would start but the battery was dead. So a friendly AA man came and sorted me out and he mentionned that the carb may have frozen, and it wasn't breathing well. Has anyone heard of this before? Anyway he clipped the power pack on and away we went. However, I once again had to battle with the residents of Oxshott who don't seem to understand that a car CAN break down even if it's on private property and funnily enough, no i can't move it......cos it's BROKEN DOWN! So This doris drives past me and points out how inconvenient it is of me to break down in her driveway, and how it's very dangerous and they have had fatalities there recently, to which i thought "yes, and i can see another one on the horizon!" Did she honestly think i'd thought, "Oh it's a bloddy freezing morning, i'm early for work, i know, i'll have myself a nice little breakdown!!!! This looks like a posh driveway, I'll break down here!" Anyway, I said to the doris who was sat in some sort of chelsea tractor, "i think it will start i just need a BATTERY (Hint, hint)" Hoping she would help me out. But know, instead she replied " Oh. Well. This is an automatic you won't be able to get it off this!" To which i laughed in her face and she drove off!!!!! What's under the bonnet then, a big battery shaped hole with a little hamster in wheel rigged up to a generator!

Was going to my mates house in north london and found this. The only access to the yard is the gateway you can see in the photo. and yes the wall does go all the way round it!!! Which came first the wall or the granada?

...and now we cross to the New Forest where we learn the record has been broken for the Escort Fling.

if a 1600 mk2 escort radiator will fit on a 1300? My rad gave up the ghost on the way home from work, glad i live at the bottom of a hill. any guidance gratefully received.

4 branch- 2- 1, yeah that's the one. Will give them a ring tomorrow, cheers for your help all.

I'm putting down my general vagueness and lack of detail to it been a stressful day, just got back in from sorting out a lazy caliper. Really fed up, spent the last two weeks sorting out the paint/bodywork and was aiming to come to the meet upon the morrow and then it fails on four tiny (apart from manifold) faults. MOT's should be given on the way a car looks. "Yep, looks cool, you've passed!" anyway 1300 xflow, mk2 escort ghia. It's not the cast iron one though, it's the stainless steel one. gonna drink beer
-
oh yeah ! 1298, think it's the same one they fitted to the RS but not sure.
-
my cort just failed the MOT on 'exessive corrosion to the exhaust manifold' . Really need to track one down asap, has anybody got one lying around or propping up a coffee table? It's super urgent! (mk2 ghia) cheers
-
it didn't look any good either, in fact couldn't actually imagine it look any good even when it was first done. Just really bizzarre and it must have taken fookin ages.
