Pics of tyres on 15"x7J Wheels
sitting_budda replied to sitting_budda's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
cheers, any chance of some close ups Driver? Want to see how the sidewall sits on the rims. -
has anyone thought about fitting 2 tanks?? A standard tank on either side and joined with a T Piece then fed to the fuel pump.

Pics of tyres on 15"x7J Wheels

Do you have pics of what you run? -
As per this thread (http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=83123) Im after pics of tyres on 15"x 7J wheels (not after 13" pics ) Currently got 195/50 R15s which scrub my rear arches. After something different to fit under the arches so that I can drop the back end down. Rather than just trial and error I would like to see how different sizes and profiles sit on the wheels. Not after anything extreme, just something to give a little more clearance. Ideally after pics of the following: 175/50 R15 175/55 R15 185/55 R15 195/45 R15 Remember they must be on 15"x 7J Thanks in advance

So 175x50x15 then??

* the alloys are 15x7

agreed, but im not going the extent that the VAG crowd go to. Im based on what we do when fitting 7x13 (superlites/ rs4 spokes etc), instead of fitted 185x60x13, some people opt for 175x50x13, which is in effect to stretching, just not to the same extent. So with 195x50x15s on there are the moment, would say 185x50x15 or equivilant produce the same results? Has anyone done this?
-
Ok after some advice... I know the standard route with 13x7 is to fit 175x50s which looks great. But has anyone done something similiar 15s? Im currently running 195x50s (they came with the wheels.) As they sit at the moment... So which tyres to fit? Sizes, profiles etc and where to get them from? I dont want to go to the extremes that some vw guys go to... That looks plain dangerous. Im thinking something along the lines of this... Nothing major, just want something subtle. The main reason for this is so that I can lower the back end down an inch or so because the moment it is riding quite high. So the idea is gain clearance by changing the width and height of tyre by stretching it. As with all oldskool fords they are designed to go sideways, I dont want anything too extreme that will blowout and wont allow me to enojoy roundabouts etc

try contacting Peter from sporting escort owners club http://www.seoc.co.uk/

depends on whether is a show car, so thing that actually gets used and abused... pretty sure if you put huge wide wheels on the front it will cause it to bump steer.
-
cheers driver, how much have you lowered yours? Mines currently -2inches at the front and standard at the back (on 2.8i single leafs)
-
This is probably mine, taken on the recent Escort 40th anniversary champagne tour in Laon
-
how much clearance do the 195/45s give you on the rear?? Enough to drop it down a few inches (1-2 inches max)without the arches scrubbing?
-
this is with 195x50x15s currently fitted. Just would like the option of lowering the backend back down as its sitting VERY high at the moment. By using the thinner tyres and rolling the arches flat hopefully should give just enough clearance to lower it but an inch or so with scrubbing. Want to finalised the ride height so that I can get some anti tramp bars fitted. (Last resort would be to cut the ends off the tramp bars and fit adjustable rose joints to allow the ride height to be changed)

I recently bought set off here of competition alloys 15 x7j fitted with 195x50 bridgestone tyres. Just come back from the champagne tour in france where I had to roll the arches slightly to stop the back end scrubbing. I know the standard route for 13" rims is to fit 175x50s, but im curious what can be fitted to 15s without over stretching them. Had a quick look and have found these options so far: 175x55x15 185x55x15 - seems to have more brands available at reasonable prices...

cheers matey. they are 15x7j performance alloys (same p.pl that make superlights I believe.) running 195x50 tyres. bought them off a guy on here. He said they were off a tvr or something. The spigots have been machined to fit ford hubs. I'm running: mk2 escort 1600 sport front struts -2inches 145 springs, capri 2.8i single leaf springs standard height. standard english axle. arches did scrub but bought an arch rolling tool off ebay and rolled and stretched the fronts slightly. The only problem is the back looks jacked up from the back.

Been thinking about these for a while now, just not 100% sure whether this looks alright or not.... At the moment.... mocked up with some tape....

What does everyone think?? Before.... After....

check all your fuses, give them a quick rub over with some emery paper and do the same with contacts. then check that the solenoid is tight to body and not loose/bad earth connection. Also check that the cables havent come off the solenoid. That normally solves it when I have the problem you are describing.

Is anyone on here going??

Have been ringing around trying to find some new leaf springs as mine (1970 mk1, so early rear setup!!) have seen better days and no one seems to have anything in stock. CD8s have been recommended as the ones to go for, but havent had any luck finding any. All I can only seem to find is mk2 single leafs and mk2 single decambered leafs. Im planning on fitting some 15" wheels to improve cruising speeds with a 4.1 lsd, so decambered springs are really arent an option. Especially as im planned on the doing 40th anniversary cruise in the france this september so will be carrying luggage in the boot. (female partners tend to pack everything including the kitchen sink!!!) I have been offered some capri 2.8i single leaf springs which look relatively new, and i trust the source. Will these fit? I know the ends need to be cut down so that they fit inside the mk1 mounts, but will there be any other issues?? Will there be any handling issues?? The theory being that a 2.8i capri is a heavy beast so they should be more than up to supporting a mk1 escort.
