  2. These were taken about a year ago in my local scrappy... there was also a MK1 Escort in a container. A few months later there was also a MK3 Zephyr and a MK3 Cortina which looked like it had just been dragged out of a barn... Pre-facelift MK2 Granny MK5 Cortina... 1 of 3 IIRC Capris Fancy something a bit bigger? how about a D series? And this was sat in a yard where I used to rent a unit...
  3. 1500 pre-crossflow from a Mk1 Cortina with Kent cam, twin choke Weber and four branch manifold. 109E Classic struts and anti-roll bar, re-drilled 107E crossmember, 105E TCAs and draglink. Classic rear axle, Sierra 14" steel wheels. Suzuki Swift front seats. Since these photos were taken I've removed the stick-on pinstriping and 'GT' badge and taken off the pop hubcaps and fitted chrome trim rings.
  4. ...when thing are going well, and suddenly go pear shaped I decided that today I would get the Anglia out and have a look at the brakes, as the pedal was very spongy. I'd got a master cylinder kit off ebay, although I wasn't sure if it was the right one, not being certain what cylinder was fitted. so I got it up on stands, wheels off, drums off, shoes and cylinders are fine, so are the pads. In the meantime I've drained the oil, filter I've got is the right one (again not sure, another ebay purchase...) Decide to give the wheels a quick coat of paint, only got matt black acording to the lid, really wanted gloss but never mind. spray wheels and the paint turns out to be gloss...great. Get the master cylinder off and strip it, kit is the right one... refit cylinder, start at N/S/R wheel to bleed brakes, nipple comes undone OK, no fluid coming through. OK, I'll bleed the master cylinder first... tighten bleed screw... CRACK... the piece with the bleed nipple in breaks away from the cylinder... OK, it's not the end of the world... but I wanted to use the car tomorrow
  5. "Brakes are good but do not always work not sure why." "Apart from the brakes failing now and again the car seems to be mechanicaly fine." ...So the new definition of 'good brakes" is ones that somtimes don't work...
  6. Good subject, bound to ruffle a few feathers... Personally, I don't have a problem with it. As long as the cars are aquired by legitimate means, its up to the owner to do what he/she wants with it. There was an A60 Cambridge advertised for bangering on ebay a while back... in the questions someone had basicaly said it was sacralige and should be restored... the seller had replied that A: he was already busy restoring a Westminister, and B: why don't you pony up the cash and buy it to restore yourself if you're so concerned...? Don't forget that a fresh coat of paint can make any car look good... Another point is that people who modify old cars, i.e us, are often acused of 'ruining' them... to which we reply "it's my car, I'll do what I like with it" One last thing, years ago I bought a V4 Corsair for £70 that had been sat in a garage for 9 years with the engine in pieces... a week after I'd bought the previous owner was ringing up asking if I'd done anything with it... some poeple have more concern for a car after they've sold it...
  7. When I had my satin black Mk1 Humber Sceptre... "You want to try some T-Cut on that mate, come up lovely..." Also got asked if it was the original colour... yeah, they came from the factory satin black with metallic purple scallops you pilchard... and I was stopped in traffic one day and a girl jumped out of the car behind and asked if it was an Aston Martin...

I supose it all depends when and why it was done... a car that was re-shelled early on in it's life as a result of accident damage is a different matter to one that was deliberatly faked into a more vauluable version in an efort to rip someone off.... But at the end of the day, another old car that's still on the road can only be a good thing...

Looking through the wad of paperwork I got with the 100e, I found the original receipt (for £400, plus £167 15s 10d purchase tax, £3 3s delivery, £1 15s for petrol, £2 10s for number plates, £6 11s 3d for road tax , £11 16s 6d for the heater and £12 for carrying out "Novaseal".... which seems to have been a good investment!) There's also the receipts for the hire purchase payments, and the original insurance documents... £13 10s 5d, with a £10 excess Does anyone else have any interesting paperwork with their car?
