Anyone local to me that is confident at helicoiling???
toad650 replied to sambo's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
I always think time sert n helicoils are the same sort of thing then remember there not, we use timeserts at work n there all good done brake calipers with them n everything. Try RS or even ebay thay won't be too hard to get hold of but thay are quite expensive kits if i remember -
Just connect the bat live to a constant live, Clock or sumit if you can't be arsed to run a fused live to the battery. The uints prob not working cos the switch lives only makes the unit switch to the bat live so it'll only work with the ignition on.

If theres a stud in there can't you get it out then the drill will just follow the line of the hole. Is the drill size for the M10 coil bigger than the stud you've got cos i'f not you can't do it anyhe and if your really lucky the coil will fit the thread the studs in. Would it be a really big issue to get the head off if it ment that it was done properly? Obv its a pain in the arse but not as much as if it gets messed up by taking a bit of a short cut, Been there done that still kick myself every time i do it -
So, just what went wrong with the tuning industry?

Do have to agree with Fiesta Steve car companys actually spend a bit of time on things now as this help original BHP and emissions and has to work with a fairly complex engine like the zetec, unlike the old school days when it was bolted on if it worked unless it was some sort of special edition car. The main thing holding modern cars back is engine map, cams which tie in with the map n the CAT which will stop alot of BHP, just get a cat replacement tube to get the power you want but make sure you keep the cat warm and dry for MOT time -
I followed some arogant banker through cockfosters n southgate a few weeks ago he was overtaking on the wrong side of the road cutting people up etc general BMW driver got to a set of lights sat next to him lights went green floored the cappa cut him up as the lanes joined he flashed n moaned my girlfreind loved it, its good to know my old cappa's quicker than a 330ci BM now eith a new clutch n 2ltr diff bring on the CHAVS!!!

What area did you want to go into? I've got the same degree n was working as a bike mechanic for 3 years and was looking for a while to go over there and mechanics are wanted everywhere but then its not the best use of your degree. My step brothers out there he kinda just went over there with a work permit found himself a job n kinda wormed his way in but he drives buses/trucks. got a friend thats looking to go to NZ he went there on a holiday n while he was there handed out his CV n talked to people. Your best bet would be to save some money together n get a year working permit, before you go research places, e-mail, aply for jobs etc an english engineering degree is spose to be sort after but it'll still be a hard slog to get somthing as you can only stay in a job for 3months at a time on a workin visa but you'll also beable to see if you actually like living over there. If your lucky a company will offer you a contract for a year or 2 when your looking, but as you say no experiance doesn't help. Once you've done all that then it'd be time to start aplying to emigrate so you've got somthing to actually go to. Will kinda be a long thing n there are other ways these are just the ways i know people have done. Hope this helps a little bit ozz is a great place i would love to go back!!

Help!!! - Update and void bush tool confusion!
toad650 replied to Daveyboy20's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Polly bushes are usually solid aren't they? they were on my cappa. I just kinda squessed mine in with bits of wood n a G clamp used a bit of grease to not sure if thats recomended but hay there in. Had to put the centre tubes in before i started squishing them in as i found that kept them straight and i couldn't get the tube in once the bushes were in. Thats what i did on the cappa but blood swet n tears are still to come i guess -

thats the way i get bushes out too, Hacksaw in two places down the metal ring chisel the bit out then the rest should be easy to get out. -
i'd agree in both cases wiggly bits line up and the triangle bits line up, dents in van well blame them on bollards!!

If your grafting in the abs have a look at getting the dash instuments in aswell as the speedo would work though the gearbox pickup i guess but you axle ratio's might muck that up got a feeling the ABS is conected to that lot too, can't really remember just ripped the dash out of my donar car with a hammer

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=014 Well good luck with the ABS if you've got the room n tools to do it why not i only the the joys of a drive way n a hacksaw so don't think i'd even try that recon it'd be 10x more complicated than the engine swap n i had to do that in a carpark with no power Let me know how it goes though could be interesting.

I guess ABS will be tricky to set up, depending on what type it is you prob have to use the front and rear hubs as thay have speed sensors on them so they know when a wheel is locked up, all the pipe work to the different servos and bypasses + all the wiring if you can get it out the donor car in one piece bit by bit you'll beable to wire it back in and aslong as you can get the pipes in all should work, but the hubs or whatever the pick up is will be the tricky bit along with getting the master cylinder to fit, really depends what system it is theres quite a few out there. Is the car an auto already cos the gearboxes are different lengths so the mounts might be in the wrong place but the prop will def need changing. People use pedal bike speedo's but i saw one on ebay i was thinking of getting http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... rd=1&item= 330122104130&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014

Theres some big industrial ones that'll be a bit over the top and fiddly for that but there are some nice rachet ones that look like a sockets not sure on the price though could be a bit over the top for a one off. Mole grips will do had to do loads that way myself and as you say shouldn't be in that tight anyhe.
-
Surly by the looks of them it can only go one way up as the holes won't line up at either end if it was the wrong way round left to right and its completly different front to back, or do i just have bad spacial awarness?? Which would explain the dents in my van Haynes manual should tell you the ring gaps.
-
heat it up with a blow lamp before you go at it, try n find proper stud extractor over mole grips but if thats all you've got be careful don't wanna snap it anymore, been there done that

Oh yeah i use the cappa speedo but i'm gonna get a digital one soon as its prob a long way off now, 2.8 gearbox with a 2ltr axle n 15" wheels, but the engine mangment doesn't need speed sensor to work unless your using the 24v cossy one and then you'll need a special manual box to take the power n speed sensor. Waffle, waffle waffle!!!!

I put the 2.9 12v in my cappa. ABS is a completly different system nothing to do with the engine what so ever. The wiring isn't too had i messed it up by wiring up a switch live instead of a perminant one so every time i cranked it the live went dead took alot off messing before i worked it out by which time i'd f&*ked other bits up I'm just running a 2.8 manual box with clutch n 2ltr rear axle. The 2.9 just goes straight in the cappa not sure how they differ from the granada but the engine is the same block as the 2.8 so you just use the 2.8 mounts n stuff. Converted mine to power steering at the same time as it was only a 1600 at the start. Capri sport have got the conversion for the cappa on his website n if you become a member i'm sure he'd be happy to help (hmmm should really renew my membership ) he's a helpful bloke but i've heard that non members have had difficulties getting info out of him but then you can't really blam him. The only bit i had a loada hassle with was the exhaust but that was cos i was doing it in a carpark and can't weld so just got them made 1.5years after getting the engine in Hmmm i've kinda waffled on hope its been some help.
