How have you got the 'stang axle narrow enough to fit on the Pop? -
How many Cars do you have and what are they??

1975 2.0 MK1 Escort RS2000 Replica. 2006 Ford Focus Zetec Climate TDCi (The fat fooker is about twice and big + twice as heavy as the Escort! ) -
Toe Rag bunch of Cowardly little Wieners with arms like "under-fed kittens" that go round in big groups to look really "Hard" - Country's full of them at the moment and thanks to our decade under Blairs ahem.."Leadership"! the little chav C*NTS now have more "human rights" than law abiding, tax-paying citizens - so if you catch them at it and harm a hair on their head - YOU end up doing time instead of THEM I'm lucky enough to have found storage for my Escort MK1 on camp (I'm a sparky in the Army) So it's Garaged "Behind the wire" rather than by my house at least I get sleep knowing the car's safe! Hope you manage to rectify the damage and hopefully it won't happen again

Cheers for the reply, My escort is my first RWD Ford and consequently my knowledge of Axles is crap! I'll just keep the English in 'till it breaks!
-
Right, I've read some literature which states that the "Baby Atlas" axle is acutally a "Salisbury -Type E" axle. - As opposed to the "Timken" Or "English - Type C" in old skool escorts. The Salisbury was also fitted in 1970's MGB's too and I was wondering if it is the same axle - long shot I know but worth asking!

Online Auction Sites GOOD / BAD for the oldskoolFord Scene??
jimmyesh replied to jimmyesh's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Yeah fair points guys I think I'm just all bitter and twisted because I'm after some Mex wings for my Escort at the moment I WILL get some and I know I'm gonna be paying someone a week's wages for two scabby old bits of mild steel, it's crazy but SO worth it I guess! -
lol yeah awesome car the Tango! Here is the clip - I'm up against him in my fiesta (now sold so hold back with the abuse !!) http://youtube.com/watch?v=ozWVyy-Uuu4 That was my slowest run of the day, my best was 15.0 @ 94mph with a much more aggresive launch, the swag from the boot removed etc. The car had a 180bhp ST170 engine and 6-speed box (was awesome on the motorway) Reckon I would have held my own if I still had the connaught lump though! If I stripped the interior out, lowered front tyre pressures etc, excuses, excuses... Still I have a RWD Escort now so hard, fast launches and respectable 1/4 here we come!

Online Auction Sites GOOD / BAD for the oldskoolFord Scene??
jimmyesh replied to jimmyesh's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Yeah with another 4-dozen people "watching" the same item and the seller's best mate waiting to keep bumping the bids up!!! - I'd rather sift through some autojumble, haggle with the seller and most probably pay half what the Greedy Ebay Guy wanted! -

Don't get me wrong I do see the plus side of Ebay - after all I did buy MY MK1 Escort on there in June '07!! I just saw an advert for some mk1 Escort parts on there the other day which said "buy these parts to keep and sell in the future - better than any savings account" - Granted we all want to make a living but attitudes and people like that are wrecking the scene in my humble opinion! -
Just read through the whole of this thread while I was supposed to be working lol! I can identify with both sides here reagrding N/A and Turbo lumps, if you live your life 1/4 mile at a time on the strip and/or track days then a peaky stratospehric-revving N/A lump is great if you don't spend much time on our congested roads (and take your car to the strip or track on a trailer!! ) - I know from my own experience- my 219bhp Connaught Zetec 2.1 I had in one of my previous Fiestas was an animal But I hated being in traffic in it as it hated idling despite having a very sophisticated engine management and mapping. Also when "on cam" it was great but anything below 4k rpm was awful!! It revved to 8k rpm and peak power at 7.5k rpm, with peak torque of 180lb/ft at 5k rpm - That engine was a properly built £5k engine that lasted me ages an I sold it on still running sweet as a nut 3 years later! I think with Turbo engines (that aren't tuned to mental levels! ) you get the best of both worlds in that you get massive peak power, loads of TORQUE which is available in the low and mid range too! and as it's only breathing through a single throttle body and off bost at idle (unless you have anti-lag! ) it will idle happily all day in traffic and be driveable at slower speeds where a peaky screamer N/A engine will be coughing and spluttering all over the show!! No offence intended to anyone here - I was at the Classic Ford Show earlier in the year and was SERIOUSLY impressed with the speed of the N/A stuff on the strip - I ended up next to TANGO N/A COSSIE Escort with my Nu-skool Fiesta RS1800 with ST170 Engine and 'box (now sold and replaced with my 1975 MK1 Escort! ), needless to say he whooped my ass AND it's on youtube somewhere!

As per title everyone! I'd be interested to hear your opinions on this Do you reckon EBAY is good or bad for the scene? I know that it's convenient as you just log on and you can access so many sales instantly and don't have to travel to find things but there are also downsides too... With resgards MK1 / MK2 Escorts - the spares and parts are all still out there (admittedly not in big numbers) but greedy tw*t "horders" are accumulating them, making them appear even more scarce than they really are then selling them for STUPID amounts on ebay (Just look at how much a set of manky, half rusted out mk1 mexico wings go for!!!) Ebay has a lot to answer for as it's completely changed the scene of modifying and maintaining older Fords, you can't blame guys for wanting to make a few quid - (don't we all?! ) but most get mates to out-bid you just to bump the price up, almost every seller does this and collectively they are destroying the scene and setting artificially high market levels for such items (mex wings being a prime example - £500-700+! ) Gone are the days of finding RS bits in the "Free Ads" or even in the back of magazines for a set, honest price. I know that if people are willing to spend a certain amount then you could say the item was worth it and I'm not oblivious to the fact that there is a "scarcety" value with regards some parts and that when demand out-strips supply then obviously prices take a hike! It just seems to have gone really crazy in the last couple of years!
-
Just sheer greed getting the better of people I'm afraid! There's no denying a straight type-49 shell is worth a few quid- but 5-figure sums ferchrissakes!! People getting hold of mk1/2 escort parts, hoarding them and trying to bump prices up is just ruining the scene for anyone else trying to get on the old skool ford scene (it cost me enough!! ) I agree with the comments about the Classic Ford show too - far better than Ford Fair - Bring on next year's!!
-
MY thoughts exactly!! Much as the RS Focus is a nice car, having a big heap of them in one place just ISN'T interesting!! Yeah too much plastic, too many Mondeos with chav body kits and flourescent paint being driven by idiots!! Well impressed with the cars on our stand though Classic all the way! [/b]

Great day and brilliant to meet some of you (I'm the bloke with the red/white MK1 Escort RS2000 Rep ) Track action looked fun - that Fiesta WAS flying I was well impressed! Hope you get your engine sorted soon mate! Cheers for the sticker Darren!!
