  1. Morning everyone, just thought i'd drop a quick message on here with regards a ford meet this sunday at Ian Walley Racing in Darlington, its for all fords, so moder, retro and clasic will be there, along with performance ford mag who've just confirmed they'll be doing a feature. theres even an ice cream van going??? its on sunday from 12-16:00, ians planning on having his 1000+bhp cortina drag racer up and running, the bright yellow one. and he's also intending on firing up the 3300hp helicopter jet engine he's wanting to put in a cortina estate, ha. his unit is open for all to have a look round and there'll even be a burger van. might not be to everyones taste but thought i'd pop a mention on here anyway. cheers. craig.
  2. nissan sr20det motor please, few tweeks, nice reliable 300bhp, with all the goodies needed to make sure the shell and running gear can handle it, but im gonna settle for the ca18det for now, which im buying soon,
  3. in need of restoration?? its not mine by the way, , my friend has been aproached by another friend to buy his mk2 and they've both asked me what i think its worth, the problem i face is i want them both to get a fair deal and im struggling. the car in question is a bog standard 1300 popular, 80k, no tax or test, but it runs and drives (ish), we think it needs new piston rings. the work on the shell needed is 2 sills, floor section, spare wheel well and under the fuel tank, rear arch/rear quarter. on a plus side, 2 years ago he ran into someone and ended up replacing the front panel and put new wings on whilst he was there, none of the inner wings/strut tops are rotten, so its only really from the bulk head back. now seeing what prices are on ebay, this forum and in classic ford, i've said what i think is a pretty nuetral price of around £1500, but i was just wondering if theres anybody with more experience willing to chuck some advice my way please? i'll throw in a virtual pint, , cheers.
  4. luke motorsport do a fantastic high torque starter, i've had one for years and they're not that expensive, let me know if you want his number.
  5. sweet, it at least gives me a clue as to waht to work towards. and as for the leveling of it, its level with the earth,
  6. ah right, thanks, what would that lot equate to in tons of ballast? how many would you order? and ive sorted the sheet for the concrete to go on top of.
  7. hellloooo, im laying the dolomite for my new garage base this weekend but im having trouble finding out how much cement ill be needing, can anyone on here help please? the base is 5 inches deep, 12ft x 32ft, we'll be doing a strong, 5-1 mix and the sand and gravel mix will be getting delivered in 1.1T loads, the cement bags are 25kgs, are they any builders on here that could offer advice? i've spent 6 weeks designing the garage and now im stuck on the slab of concrete its gonna sit on, any help muchly appreciated.
  8. MANLY...... velvet purple...... and yes thats the shade thats on my car, and i wouldnt have it any other way,
  9. the debate is still raging on so ive had an idea that i think people will be more than willing to help with but we may need your help too. what im thinking is a comprehensive side by side test of the 2 fuel systems over a few days. now we will either need 2 cars of almost exact spec, engine, box, interior, diff etc etc or 1 car (ill be happy to donate mine for this once its ready in a few months, currently on ninja bike carbs) that gets the fuel system swapped from bike carbs to webbers and driven by a nuetral party (the stig perhaps, ) to complete the following tests: 1. heads up power run on rolling road with print out of power and torque curves. 2. emissions test at local garage followed by a fuel economy run consisting of the same route, same driver, same miles, etc etc. 3. ease of maintenance, i.e, setting carbs up, setting fuel air mix, replacing throttle cables, romoval and refitting of carbs etc etc. 4. price of the complete set up for each, both new and 2nd hand prices? 5. noise test, has to be done really doesn't it, decimal readings perhaps or simply a bunch of osf fans voting which they think sounds better (ill admit defeat on this one straight off, webbers sound awesome, ) just an excuse to give it the beans really, cant think of any others but if anyone else can then please put them forward. now the part we may need the mags help with is locating a sponsor who'd be willing to supply webbers and a rolling road, unless we have any volunteers on here who'd like to help? i live in north east but will happilly drive down south to see this done and be part of it. i was thinking somethin could be done at classic ford in june but not sure if thats to soon? anyway, thats my thoughts, if its a no go then no worries, just thought it'd be a laugh to find out once and for all which is the better all rounder.
  10. that makes things alot simpler actually,
  11. i like these threads, seeing as mine is now in pieces and has been for 2 1/2 years, lets me pretend it still looks like this, this ones probably cheating for your course work but i love it, it has pride of place in the front room,
  12. i dont have any pics, but i do have this video, and its the only one i have till i rebuild the car,
  13. i've just bought one thats been stood for 7 years, theres a pic in this section under, Yippee, ive got a barn find, sort of. and i paid £150 for it, get a look at the chassis, if its rotten its a body off job but its simple box section, if its tested it should be good, without pics, id start at £500 minimum.
  14. oooooohhh, thats nice, can i ask what sort of mpg he gets then? and is at as comfy as it looks?? also who does he use for spare parts etc??
  15. diesel?? never heard that one, but its worth a try, how long to soak for?? and how much?? just a splash or half a cup so it covers all the piston top therefore gets all the piston ring?
  16. ive never seen guarantee'd death look sooooo cool,
  17. good thinking batman, hadn't thought about that, my escort has electronic ignition and forgot about points, adding them to my list,
  18. hahaha, thats also a good time to discover the 7 years of rust have fubar'd the brakes, too, hahaha, ill stick toy a big battery n jump leads,
  19. as a few of you have seen in the chat area, i've bagged a barn find and its got a 3.0ltr V6 essex in, BUT, its been stood for 7 years, it would turn over by hand before christmas but not now, so before i yank it out i just want to see if it'll flash up, am i right in sayin; some form or release agent down the plug holes (wd40 etc) and let soak in for a few hours? get a power bar on the crank nut n give it a few turns new oil n filter new fuel clean carb new plugs (maybe new leads) nice big fresh battery and a few friends to laugh at me when it either doesnt run, or does fire up then die in a cloud of smoke, anything else i could do to improve my chances??
  20. tel him strap a turbo on each side then,
  21. rover wash your mouth out sorry, , i meant ford small block,
  22. is it at all possible to get a feature done whereby you road test, rolling road a car on twin 40's, then swap the set up to equivalent bike carbs, ninja's etc, on the same car so you have identical peramiters, same gearbox, diff, weight etc etc, then run the same tests, road test, rolling road, power run, mpg etc etc, so we can finally see, for definate, what the pro's and cons of each are? rather than the never ending debate of which is better, i'd offer my car but at the mo i'm finishing a 2 year resto on it and it won't be ready till next spring, i've ran bike carbs for over 3 years and think they are fantastic, but my friends run webbers, similar engines, and we can all keep up with each other etc, but i out do them with the fuel economy, so i'd just like to see it done, once and for all? cheers for reading my novel, think i'll get it published and turn it into a few films, hahaha.
  23. no its a s.i.e.r.r.a, needs chassis work but the body is ok, has a mk1 escort interior, wont take long to sort out, and he got it for £100, , but mines bigger n faster,
  24. im fancying a rover V8 in it instead of the essex, gonna try n convince my cousin to take the essex lump n pop it in the dutton,
