i think the rose jointed stick gives the syncros a hard time but 2nd hand t9's have 100k miles plus generally so its a bit of both at fault really my t9 failed on 2nd syncro not long after i fitted the rose jointed lever but the way i slammed it into 2nd into roundabouts wouldn't of helped alot

the mazda mx5 6 speed is the one with a close ratio gears the 5 speed isn't as close unsure of the rx8 ratios

why not do it the other way round fit a mx5 engine or 2.0 duratec same lump with 6 speed mazda mx5 gearbox or the older 5 speed an fit it up to a escort it will fit its been done many times keeps everything looking correct from the outside and retain the chassis and floorpans etc some tunnel mods are needed live axles are robust enough for mx5 power if you upgrade the suspention it will handle too you only issue will be if you want to modernise the escort with up to date items but im sure with enough time and enthusiasm you will get past it

im with mags get a capri bulge an weld it to a mk1 bonnet

motor sport tools sell them you need short bilstein struts with short inserts not a cheap setup but they wont bottom out

its the leg I think im not certain what inserts you put in them tho I will try to find out

short strut body bilsteins rally boys use/sell them

if you want a screamer x flow if you want some grunt and smoke the tyres a pinto I preferd the pinto over the x flow

try a local car trimmer in your area they must be able to get hold of it
