  1. my old man used to have a mk1 cortina when he was 17/18 ish, he took a girl out to the bowling alley, then on way home they stopped off in the parking behind a cemetry, and while they was fooling around, he must have knocked the handbrake off, it was a very slight gradient, and the car rolled forward and over the berm at the edge of the car park area! he was stuck, so embarrassed had to call out his mates for help! not sure if he got a second date, i will have to ask him!
  2. the good old days of modifying cars! the funny thing is, you can just imagine the guy finishing it, standing back and being so proud of the creation! "wow, look at my car love" can you remember the magazine, "chrome and flames" used to get it many moons ago, not sure if its still on the go! they sometimes had some nice cars, but also the odd naff one!
  3. i hunted in all my stuff for the wheels, sods law, the last box i looked in i found them, and even more of a suprise for me, i had 2 of them! cant remember having a second! anyway, they look identical to yours, but if your's is an astrali it will be stamped on the back of one of the spokes, and at the top of the centre ring also on the rear, will be stamped the model number! hope this helps, i forgot how good they feel, now what shall i fit them to!!! 4. Hi, yes 3/16 is correct, just take care when flaring the pipe ends, some are single flare, others are double, normally, if its a male fitting, then its single, and female then its double, but always check the cylinder or junction its going into. and dont always take the old one as being correct! check to be sure. also a good tip, its easy to measure the old pipe you have removed, with a piece of wire, held along the pipe, (its easier to follow the bends than with a roll of pipe wobbling all over in your hand. when you cut it, always debur the inside, and dont overtighten the fittings! hope this helps, and good luck, a nice done brake pipe job looks great! i love doing them! cheers
  5. I have an Astrali wheel tucked away in the garage, will dig it out this week/weekend and take a piccy of it, and if memory serves me correct, i think it same colour as yours also! will check.
  6. thanks for the link, think i will get them from him, will have to call first, as i need them for lhd! its been a few years since i was into o.s.f's, but now im getting back into it, so its finding all the good dealers! cheers i saw some on flea bay, the guy was saying there universal, rhd + lhd!!! so what about the beam kick up needed for one or other! will be avoiding him!
  7. ok, great i will go on flea bay and have a look. presume you just searched for escort clear lamps, or jsut clear lamps, anyway i will have a look! cheers
  8. hi all, in the latest edition of classic ford mag, there is a lovely zetec'd mk1 cortina, he's using "modern" lights as it says in the story, but does anybody know what there off, or where from, if bought direct off the shelf! thanks in advance!
  9. well, as promised, i took some pictures for you today. as you can see, the main brake hose comes in (through bias valve, if your running one) to the handbrake cylinder, then on to the rear brakes! hope this was of some help, sorry if the picture quality is not so good, but its an all black interior, and not so bright, but it is the only one out of the escorts in our workshop with the hydraulic set up!! [/img] [/img]
  10. i will take a picture at work monday, we have a mk1 in at the moment with hydraulic h.brake set up. but i am sure it is like you said!
  11. oh yeh! so you like the back door do you!!! joking aside, yes they are in good condition, im happy they are, i bet its a nightmare trying to find new ones!
  12. all i can say is "WOW" Just read it all about the van, excellent work, and great fabrication with some neat ideas. nice one! the plans for mine! i had thought about rs2000 nose cone! (now dismissed) then also changing the front to a mk1, i do like mk1's (now dismissed) so i have finally come to my decission, going to keep it stock looking but tidy, not sure if going to keep it red! and a tuned 1600/1700 crossflow, with exhaust, nice sound, not loud, and good carbs, (yet to decide which ones) and a set of nice supelights. it will be a regular driver, so also has to be useable and comfy, so maybe recarros or similar. oh and also change the steering wheel, its to skinny, was thinking rs2000 style and a dash instruments from the same, but its still all just initial plans, but its nice to imagine! so the collecting will begin, and in the meantime i will do the body! (acid dip looks so great, but i think that will wait for another time)
  13. its february 1980, 1300cc his wife used to use it to go to the shops or here and there, but he now has a mk2 estate for that duty, as its better suited as they have a kid, so the van was no longer used, he was not advertising it for sale, but when he new i was looking for one he offered me it! (knew it would be in good hands) what do ya all think!
  14. and some more! [/img] [/img]
  15. Well as promised, im back with some more photos. (everybody likes pictures!) anyway, went over today, had a good look round it, it had been sat for a couple of months, motor stone cold, started with a little flick, no problem, then once warm, purred real nice. generally its in good state, although the wings are just starting to go, and it will need repairs to both inner sills, i found one previous repair, a plate of about 6x2 inches, but the rest seems to be original, its also low mileage, he is unsure if its genuine, but thinks it could be, as it used to be owned and used by a textile company, so no bricks or concrete! the rear doors are mint, as is the interior panels and floor! (unfortunately it has to sit outside now, as my friend has so many escorts, and not enough garage space, which he needs as he has been building up a rally mk1 for the "bucles de spa" next month) its a good event to see the oldies being used as they used to be, screaming round the rally tracks. anyway i'll stop waffling now and show you! oh, i forgot, yes i did buy it, and got it cheaper! result! [/img] [/img]
  16. WOW! thanks ross will go have a read!
  17. im due to go have a look on wed/thurs so i will go armed with my camera! so more pictures to come! just another question, has anybody seen a mk2 van built as a rs2000 style, with the droop and 4 lights! just a thought, dont know how it would look on a van! thanks all for comments
  18. thanks, just wanted other opinions. didnt think it was a bad price, plans are to mabey put in a 1600 lump for now, and just tidy it up, but i want to keep it looking as standard as possible, just maybe some superlights!

  23. Hi all, sorry if this is'nt in correct section, i've been offered from a friend who is escort mad, he has lots, a mk2 escort van, 1300, in good condition, paint faided slighty, but nothing some good old elbow grease wont fix, he knew i was after a van or estate, and as he does'nt use it alot, offered it to me, for €2000 (£1769, at todays rate) i will ask him for more details, year ect, (but its a mk 2) and will take some pictures when i look at it, (he works shifts and lives an hour away) i have to go look at it but i know he wouldnt try to con me, he's a decent bloke! so do you think its a fair price? thanks all
  24. thats a nice looking capri, you done a nice job. seeing the white lettering reminded me of my first escort, got out there with a small pot of paint and brush and did my pirelli's, proud as punch of i went for a spin, "yeh look at me" wasnt so happy when i returned though! paint streaks on the tyres! mental note never use house gloss on tyres, lol
  25. looks nice, and the v4's were no too bad, we had an old works mk1 transit with one in, and if i remember correct, it never missed a beat, very reliable, and they have a nice burble!
