  1. Hmm, how tricky is this? By many standards, the old Sierra/Sapphire are "old skool" - rear (or 4w) drive, bonkers Cossie versions, etc., but a Mk3+ Escort? Hardly "old" skool, every other car in the world is just like an old FWD Escort, except a bit bigger, less rusty and more reliable... IMHO as long as you continue to allow Mk2 grannies, that'll do for me I would join a Granny club, but they all seem to be different factions who hate all the other clubs.... not sure I can be arsed with all that...
  2. IMHO - It seems to me that AV is simply a mechanism designed to ensure the Lib Dems are always in government, as part of a coalition. AV essentially gives minority interests more importance than majority interests. AV could work IF we ditch the constituency system, which massively unbalances the whole setup. AV could also work if it were limited to just 1 transfer (the "single transferable vote"), although even that is far from perfect. I'll be voting NO today, FPTP is not perfect, but it's not as bad as AV, in its proposed form.
  3. Smashing, thanks for that I was wondering how you'd got the flat edge on the right-hand side of the tyre.... but see what you've done now.... I think, if I can get alloys made like that, I'd have the centre cap as an integral part of the wheel. I hadn't really noticed the mirror; now I look at it, it seems to be too far back along the door.... My 1st estate was a pre-facelift, that had an adjustable driver's mirror, can't remember about the passenger side, but it's so long ago, I can't recall where on the door it was. Right, armed with that wheel photo, I'll have to get it sized & matched up to a nice side-view of my granny to see what it looks like pumped out to 16" or so,
  4. Bizarrely enough, I always wanted a Mitsubishi Galant - fortunately, I was far too young to buy cars at the time. It must have been around 1989 +/- a year, because every other Galant looks pants.
  5. Wow, she looks stunning.... Was a vinyl roof ever an option on a Mk2? Or did you just paint it to look that way... Also... could you do me a massive favour & take a close up straight-on photo of one of your wheels, please? I'm mulling over what wheels to put on my Mk2 estate when I finish her, and I'm really starting to like the look of the wheels you've got. However, I'm wondering about having some made specially, with a bigger rim size (16 or 17" instead of 14"), and I can't find a decent photo of one anywhere... I reckon a set of alloys to that design, bigger, and painted or anodized the same way, would look really good...
  6. When someone says they've "slammed" their car, this is what I automatically think of....
  7. Hmm, now there's an idea....! It'd cure any overheating problems; but should I mount it in the front (sticking out of the bonnet - might impede the forward view), or in the back where it'll reduce load space. Decisions decisions....
  8. Feck! Forgot to look at the time of the OP.
  9. £300? Where'd you get that from? I just paid £215 for mine (annoying, but I wasn't going to pay for the whole of March just to get a few days of taxed time).
  10. Yay, I agree with that! I don't mind some subtle exterior modifications, and I don't mind altering trim to make a car look like a different trim level (e.g. I quite like the black window trim of the Mk2 Sports grannys, rather than the chrome trim on the Ghias.) Inside & oily bits are a different matter though.... IMHO the Ford oily bits are all getting a bit long in the tooth now, and whilst a 2.8i makes a lovely noise, it IS thirsty and prone to breaking. Which is why I intend to drop a Lexus 4.0 v8 into mine, with a Supra (probably) manual gearbox Then there's things like the aircon (which uses that banned gas that's nearly impossible to get hold of & hideously expensive if you do find a source) - once that goes, it's gone. Sticky windows, dodgy mirrors.... hopefully, if I can make the lexus bits fit, all of those problems will disappear. I'm also thinking of making a "glass cockpit" (TFT screen instruments, controls & radio), but fitting as much as possible of it into the existing binnacles; so inside it'll look similar at first glance, but radically different (and hopefully very very cool) close up... BIG dreamy plans... but, there you go. Got to do a ground-up restore on the shell first, as there's plenty of grot to be getting on with, and I want this one to last at least another 30 years... BTW, some of you may recognise the car as the estate that Dazza was selling. So, you'll be glad to know, no banger track for this one!
  11. Cheers m8, just wanted to know it was "in hand" as it were
  12. Any plans to solve this one guys? I find "View unread posts" to be THE best way to catch up; except it's broken if there's more than 25 posts
  13. I came within about 6" of running a kid over on a roundabout a couple of weeks back. It was night time, and he crossed the road right in front of me, wearing a black hoody & black trousers... I didn't see him until I'd already gone past... That fair shook me up, even though nothing actually happened. Commiserations to the OPs mate, I can imagine he feels terrible.
  14. No prob m8, they're not advertised anywhere except here, and given how much luck I've had shifting Ford stuff up to now, I'll still have them for at least 6 months.... PM me which one you want, I don't mind putting it to one side for a few months. Cheers, Ade.
  15. Pix (click pictures for the big versions): They're dead grubby... I'd wipe the worst of the muck off. The small one without the yellow (i.e. the brand new one), will fit a standard Mk3 Capri as-is. The other one will require un-modifying, or re-modifying... as applicable.
