  1. thanks for the replies. the sender on right next to the stat and i know it was definately working before the problems started. i'm fairly sure theres no air lock as i had the header cap off the whole time and squeezing the hoses etc
  2. heres the story so far since October, mk2 escort with 2.0 8v S.I.E.R.R.A engine and head gasket blown. changed the head gasket and didn't get more than a mile down the road before it went again. found number 4 cylender cracked so ebay, £60 later and a trip with the trailer to get another engine. Engine was stripped by a mechanic and found to be low milage so just a set of new gaskets all round, water pump and stat cam chain and put back together. Just put this engine back in over the last 2 weekends and started it today only to find after 5 mins of idle that the temp gague hadn't moved at all. header tank and top bottom rad hose are cold but the heater matrix hoses where red hot so i shut her off. Mechanic says change the radiator which i will do but i checked it before i put it back in with a hose pipe. it took 30 seconds or so to fill it up and it was flowing out the other end nicely so i would have thought this would be fine? (i did notice that when i had the problems origonally that the rad was cold then and we found the old stat was goosed) any other ideas apart from the stat which i will just remove completely at the same time? thanks Danny
  3. if it's anyhelp i had my crossflow engine sent from shropshire to Vulcan Engineering for £50 with "palletways". £50 return trip aswell. took 3 days each way

  5. thanks for the replys all. just one more question then. if i leave it as it is with the log book being wrong but being fully insured,, would the log book stating something different be an excuse for the insurance to get away not paying a claim if something happened?
  6. oh ok. its that easy then? i thought it had to be done by a garage with a receipt and then inspected by someone like the rac? otherwise the Q plate is issued.
  7. this seems a grey area from what i've read so far but does anyone know the rules on it? i have a registered 1300gl escort mk2 with a 2ltr engine from granada. as far as i know the DVLA need to be informed as it's the law but my insurance company insured it no problem with the 2ltr and the reg doc stating a 1.3 saying it's not a problem. do i have to tell DVLA then? if so, do i end up with a Q plate?
  8. my mrs left the ebay page open today looking for a christmas gift for me and it made me giggle. i bought my first osf in september with a broken engine... hence the following.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Escort-Mk1-B ... 5640497497 danny
  9. that might be true actually but i'm just trying to eliminate the vibration in the car. the vibration stays pretty much the same at all revs and speed. i know i need a new diff as mines completely goosed but as the engine is out i thought i would do the whole lot at the same time.
  10. hi all i have a modified mk2 prop running to a saph rwd 5 speed mt75 box and need the prop balencing. i have spoken to 2 companies who say they san't do it as the end that mates to the gearbox is a rubber type UJ joint. i have been asked to get the shaft out of the gearbox and attach it to the rubber UJ for balencing. is this right? i downloaded an MT75 gearbox PDF and it looks like a right hassel getting it out. Can't it just be balenced as it is?
  11. started posting on the other forums before i saw this introduction page so a bit late but Hi all. got a red 4 door mk2 escort with broken engine at the minute in telford shropshire area. danny
  12. might be a daft question but i'm a newbie with my first mk2 2 so bear with me . i noticed on my car that as its been lowered and has a low spoiler at the front, if i ever needed towing i think the towing eye or rope / bar would foul the spoiler. i take it this is a common problem? obviously the answer is dont break down !! anyone modified theres? if so how?
  13. thanks for the replies guys will have a look at all 3 options. have had a look at the zetec route this afternoon and saw the retro ford kit for 1500 on their site. fair enough but theres still more needd on top of that kit. first problem is what can i do with the MTX75,, does that make things harder so change to type 9?
  14. yer i thought about that. 2.0 on 45's. does that fit onto mtx75 ? no idea of conversion parts
  15. Hi all bought a mk2 escort 4door with a 2.0 8v dohc efi sierra engine conversion. i knew the head gasket was gone so limped it home and by the time i got home it was completely goosed. changed the head gasket / presure tested the head etc and it blew again a mile down the road. think the block might be cracked and parts for that engine seem hard to come by. so, fix it or engine conversion time? it has the mtx75 gearbox and i'm thinking of a 2k budget. suggestions?
