looks like an MR2 engine to me... supras are straight six, i thought i was a good plug aswell lol -
How many are out there? and what are they running? i assume supra and RX-7 engines are the most popular conversion? just out of curiosity really because i was looking at my supra and couldnt help feel the engine would be better elsewhere.... coincidently my 3.0i 24V MANUAL Supra is for sale, £400 if anyone is interested in this conversion http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... highlight=

Help Needed. Looking at a Capri and Not Convinced in Mytchet

Cheers Fellas. My No is ***edited by admin***. can you text me yours or something? im really keen on the car but those bits just need a second opinion i think. oh and maybe the drip rails need looking at too, the welding isnt too pretty but it looks sound.... -
Well im looking at a 2.8 in mytchet near aldershot and it looks like a really nice car apart from the fact that the strut tops have gone and been plated (i dont think very well but im not sure) and the sills have had over sills fitted and im not convinced by the workmanship... is there anyone near mytchett who could have a look for me for a couple of pints and tell me how good the repairs are?
-
After what i have seen some dealers charge for the services of there monkeys i think £50 an hour is damn good lol! I would probably have a punt at grafting in the E30 axle myself if i was going to. I can weld and have half an idea of what i plan to do but not a four link kit lol! hench why i described it as "a few man hours" being as many of mine as it took.
-
Point taken! So what kind of money are you looking for a 5 or 6 link job on a capri then? because i would hazard a guess that the E30 rear frame could be done all told for a smidgen over £500 and some man hours.
-
I cant help feel that would be a hell of a lot of work for not a huge amount of gain lol. the E30 rear axle would be a reasonably easy transplant i reckon for someone with decent fabrication skills all it would need is a couple of strong outriggers in the correct place for the two outer pin bolts and a couple of bars across inbetween the chassis rails for the diff mount. obviously the plumbing would be reasonably difficult but no more so than normal, handbrake cables would be a pain, but not insurmoutable and i would hazard a guess you could almost use the original damper mounts. the it just leaves the spring mounts which should sit nicely on the chassis rails of the capri. just cut the ones of a scrap E30 and space them correctly to suit the new ride height...

Its not bad yea. but its not great. and Jelly moulds arent that hot either lol, i should know i have had 3! they are ok, but BM stuff is in a world of its own! and King well made aswell
-
Ok so... i have been thinking, and lets be honest here, the rear suspension on alot of our OSF's are letting the side down a tad. i used to think it was ok, then i went into the world of BMWs for a while, and i realised just how poor leaf springs and lives are. so here it is.... Has anyone swapped the entire rear beam/diff/suspension/brakes etc from a decent handling car (ie E36 Bmw) into a Capri etc? it seems like a brilliant idea to me, even easier would be an E30 or E36 compact rear axle, three mounting points to content with and rear discs as standard...
-
Anyone got one, i used to have it but i must have lost it when i changed my phone! Need to get hold of him RE: bmw engine and gearbox? PM me?
-
Yea im looking on there now! cant find anything though! anyone got one for sale?
-
Well ive got the bug again, the Bmw is for sale and another 2.8 is probably on the horizon.... not sure about taking a capri to the ring tho, anyone done it?
-
oh i know. but 2 years ago no one would even have dreamed of ASKING 7k for one.... ah well, so this half decent special for a grand? any more details. ive got the bug again bigstyle!
-
A little over 2 years ago i sold my pretty much mint capri 2.8i special with full history and about 70-80k miles for a smidgen over 2 and a half grand. i look today and people are asking 7000 for molested, 100k mile examples, what the fook is going on? are they all idiots or are average cars attracting that kind of money?

Nope. Demon Tweeks do a piece of pipe the same diameter as your top hose with a temperature controlled switch in it. (adjustable too) all you do is cut the top hose and put the piece of pipe in like you would attach it to the top of the rad (slip over nice and tight and jubille clip) its a hundred times more leak proof than the probes you can glue into the coolant pipes. and it looks nice too. Wire that into a Cavalier diesel rad from ebay (about £20 reconditioned) and Bobs your mothers brother!
-
Exactly. still got the V8 in the garage and its full steam ahead with rebuilding that! but the shell i was gonna use (and was originally my first car) was just too rotten for my skills and time! now all i have to do is resist the temptation to put the V8 in a BMW e30 Cabriolet for some summer fun....
-
not really.... much funnier on a rental car because who cares if you blow it up.... not like our beloved OSFs
-
sound like capri laser wheels to me
-
oh i intend to hang around dont worry.... incidently if anyone heres of a a late rust-free capri with a knackered engine just ripe for a V8 conversion for sale... gimme a shout!
-
