Arched Escy Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Have the bike carbs on the Pinto now,but it's spraying petrol through them. The regulator pressure has been reduced.Everything that could be done, has been done.Anyone know whats wrong?
d13dkt Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 when u say spraying petrol do u mean leaking from the bottom or the sides?
d13dkt Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 it sounds like the float level is set wrong and its coming out of the over flow, who set the carbs up?
Arched Escy Posted March 29, 2007 Author Report Posted March 29, 2007 Don't know.Bought them from a guy who had them respaced and rejetted for a Pinto, but they wouldn't work on his because it was an automatic.
d13dkt Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 i would get the carbs stripped and set up and balanced then try again, it just sound like they have not be set up correctly.
Arched Escy Posted March 29, 2007 Author Report Posted March 29, 2007 But it all adds up to more money........
v6pop Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Can you tell me what carbs you have,as in what bike they are off? Any pics of them on the engine, like to see what angle they are sitting at. Depending on how old theses carbs are you may have wear on the float shut off valves which will let fuel through even when the float bowl is full. The same problem can come from dirt on these valves, only needs a small grain of dirt to cause problems...been working on jap 4 engines for over 20 years and the carbs are usually very reliable but they must be clean.Take the float bowls off and check to see if they are minty clean inside,no brown deposits from old fuel and pull the floats off and check the valves.Worth making up a small gravity feed fuel tank(a tin with a pipe on it!)and plug it in to see if it still floods before you bolt it all back on your engine. If everything is ok you must balance the 4 carbs, gauges can be expensive but worth it to get it to run nice at low revs. One other thing to look out for,if the bowl and jets are covered inside with the brown deposits then more than likely your slow running jets will be blocked, remove them to inspect but if bad you will need to replace. The holes in these are very small and any build up makes a big differance to the running. Shame you not closer,Id of popped round to suss it out
v6pop Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 ARCH3D_E5CY, This may sound dum,but I admit I have done this. Check that the fuel pipe is connected to the correct pipe,by mistake I have fitted this pipe to the breather pipe which floods big time.....just a thought
