ZetecVan 2.0 Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Yesterday I had a spare half hour so I decided to tidy up under the engine bay of the van. The wiring didn't have any tape around, so I did that job. So later on in the day, I started up the engine and it started revving, as if the throttle was stuck open. But it wasn't. I couldn't see the problem, but it seemed to go away. Today, me and my daughter went out for a spin, and on the way back it started revving again. I was only a couple of miles from home so got back safely, with it 'idling' at 3500 revs! I thought the only thing that could be causing it was if the TB butterfly was stuck open, so with the help of the wifes vanity mirror I looked down each trumpet. In the last one, no 4 cylinder, was a black 'foreign object'. It was the piece of loom tape that I'd cut off before starting the job, folded around the butterfly! It must have slipped off the bulkhead or wherever I'd left it and been sucked into the open trumpet. If I'd been driving hard and fast, it would have been sucked further into the engine! Luckily I'd been taking it easy. So, if you're running a car without a filter and just trumpets, make sure you've tidied your engine bay up and removed everything that shouldn't be there before starting the engine.
