stevevrs Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Spent the afternoon poking holes in my 4 dr mk1 'tina and have come to the conclusion it would be easier to send the shell off to be blasted/dipped. Any one method better than the other? Is there anywhere in/around london that do it? Pulled out the headlining and found this, the second pick shows the n/s innerwing which is a bit rough. Twinkle Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 jonnyh had a mk1 escort chemical dipped. and here it is in my projects http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... sc&start=0 i would deffo have any car dipped that im gonna restore in the future, its well worth the money any rot is eaten out and you are left with a hole, all that underseal just disappears sandbalsting etc can cause some distortion to the panels
Mk 1 Mark Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Dipping is the way to go.......Mate had his mk1 done and it came back really nice and ready for welding
Rick Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 its all very expensive for average joe like me strip it down by hand to bare metal and cut out everything rotten then weld takes 14 months exactly but much cheaper chemical dip looks great though if you have that kinda cash, id imagine sand blasting cuts through thinner metal
Durham Fiesta Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 how much would it cost to have an escort dipped?
stevevrs Posted April 12, 2007 Author Report Posted April 12, 2007 That looks great Twinkle, great to see the pics. Got a quote from SPL in Dudley , £695 to have it dipped, £370 to have it etched primered after and £775 for it to be e-coated if you wanted it done, would be handy if i could find a place a bit closer to home though
mossy Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 enquired about having mine blasted.... nearly fainted when CBC told me how much! £400 just for the engine bay and a small part of the boot! then extra to put it into primer!
Rick Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 when my projects done you can start bringing your cars to me. id spend a few days doing it by hand for you for cheaper than that. and il prime it for free
