What qualifications have you got?

What made you want to write for a living?

I really want to get into journalism(motorsport) and am toying with the idea of going to uni. Expensive though

I just wondered how the guys (and gals if there are any) at Retro Ford got to where they are now.

i was toying with this idea when i was about 16.

i kinda started at it, but got completly shunned by everyoe around me so i lost faith :( . sorry.

anyway, if you go to shows and events etc and ask questions to the journo's already there, or if you ask a magazine if you can do any freelance work, and work on commision. (sp?) you have to kiss lot of arse to get even that far though, as teres loads of other people trying to do the same. :)

My story involves luck more than judgement.

Incase you were unaware, I do enjoy the occasional old Ford. Originally started posting over on Turbosport and met loads of other old Ford nutters. Back then I was young, didn't really understand the way that forums work or indeed how things can be taken the wrong way and thus ended up trapping off a lot and getting myself into all kinds of hot forum water.

At the time, Darren, Ian, Ad and myself thought that it would be a good idea to start a forum dedicated to old fords and only old Fords... Granted that was over a beer or six, but it was a great idea and thus Old skool Ford was born. It wasn't an easy road to get it to where it is, it took a lot of hassling magazines with emails, arrangement of meets which at first came under a lot of criticism but eventually went on to become really successful... But we did it and look where it is today. Anyways, I was always one to post big long posts babbling on about stuff, the occasional rant and a lot of non-sense (a lot like my writing in the mag tbh) and sort of got a name for myself. In the second half of 2005 Ben Birch was working on a new project - Retro Ford magazine, he took time out to go around and speak to a lot of people to find out what they would like to see in a new mag for old Fords. One of the groups of people he met up with was old skool Ford, to be precise, Darren, Colin, Scrappy and myself. He mentioned that he was after a full time member of staff... To which Darren and Colin both said what i was already thinking "A bit of you Morley". So I said that I would be interested in giving it a shot. I'm fortunate that I know a fair amount about old Fords, I love them more than its possibly natural to love a hunk of metal and I can babble on for hours about them given half the chance.

So after a weeks work experience I got my job through being in the right place at the right time, through being able to write in the style that the mag required, having the passion and the knowledge of the subject and thanks to www.oldskoolford.co.uk.

Hope that helps
