i dont know anyone with it but what i heard its not just swearing. it can also be little twiches. someone with tourettes doesnt always swear which is a common thing people mistake it for.

Theres a guy in Luton with it....he was standing behind me in a queue once and he started YELLING swear words ....I shit myself big time ...was told by the shop staff later that he's a real nice guy and gets so angry with himself for it...poor chap

Yes, i knew someone with it,worked with him too.

had to take tablets to calm him down...

 

said lots of "oi!" and f and c words all the time.

 

he didnt have too many problems with the tourettes itself, but did have lots of problems with lack of understanding towards it which made it ten times harder to cope with.

 

i wouldnt call him an agressive bloke, but he wasnt to be messed with and if worked up became ard as nails, i spose thats because hes had to be though.

Tourettes isn't just swearing, it can be twitches or making a noise, or spontaniously doing something like touching something.

 

There was a programme on a while ago which looked at local people & there was a guy on there that had tourettes & he'd walk past chalk boards & give it a taste or pass something that he liked the look of & he'd spend a while looking at it & rubbing it before walking on.

He would also spin around in circles.

 

There's a guy in town that's got it, he gets quite violent with it though, he'll swear loudly & kick walls.

 

Tourettes makes you do things that you have little or no control over be it swearing or making noises or twitching

completly uncontrolable with medicine. SOME people manage to find releases for it though. for example concentrating on walking in a straight line (even though you would anyway) or even clicking your fingers every now and again can help reduce the spasm's

Sometimes they can hit people too. And hit stuff.

 

Apparently when they look at something they think whats the worst i could say / do in the hope of trying not to do it. Once its their head they have to do it. They cant help it, but as said above some can stop it by doing things.

 

That Keith Allen pr@ck did a 'documentary' on it. He was really just taking the piss, but it did somewhat show what they go through.
