steve mk2 Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 rite ... two days ago i checked the log book and realised that ive been driving around for over a month without a mot so ive got one booked for this afternoon. i hope it will pass but im bound to forget to check something before i go. my heated rear window doesent work so im gona make sure it doesent mist up in their incase they check it. or should i take the switch out for the mot and put a blank in the dash ? please tell me if ive forgotten something. make it look bling (wash and hoover) put my airbox back on chek oil check headlight height and direction water level tyre pressure handbrake brakes chek all ellectric works brake pipes tyre tread horn window washers have i forgottten anything vital also i have a small hole in my engine bay is their any way of hideing it? thanks steve
john_3.0s Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 dont worry about the rear window heater mate, nor the airbox / oild etc. Make sure the washer bottle is topped up though and, obviously, that all the lights work, the horn, tyres are not bold and the handbrake adjustment. If the brake pipes are corroded they should be replaced for your own safety. As for the hole under the bonet, where is it? you may be OK as it depending... A lot of it depends on your tester, normally if you speak to them and act a bit sensible they are OK, but you do get the odd one or two who are not used to the older cars and can be a pain in the @rse.
mk1mexico Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 General rust, sharp edges, if the hole is not structural and more than 300mm from a suspension mount you should be ok also check wiper blades
steve mk2 Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 i have to put the airbox on coz at the moment its only got a pair of tights streatched over the carb all the electrics work fine engine runs smooth water bottle is topped up and radiator has the sufficiant amount of water everything works and this is the hole see wat you think my dad is a welder and we will sort it out asap but do you recon i should hide it some how???? if so how? maybe fill it with waxoyl or sumin
Gibson Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 sorry fella thats an mot fail... its within 30 cms off the strut top... get it welded
john_3.0s Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 yeah defo a weld up job there mate, although you could argue that welding that wont make the car any stronger. a bit of fiberglass filler would hide it, but wouldent recommend that as it'll only get worse
steve mk2 Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:  well its at 520pm il see how it goes
steve mk2 Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 now i know y the b*stard was selling the car to me oh well dad sais if it fails he will weld it up within the week so i guess if anything it would be best if it does fail then i can have it sorted
steve mk2 Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS IT PASSED :shag2::shag2::shag2::shag2: :shag2::shag2::shag2::shag2: after Gibson and others told me it would fail because of the hole too close to the strut top i was determined to fill it so with 15 mins before i had to be at the test centre i grabbed a heat gun and a chissel and prepared the area then i got some magic putty stuf tht you mix together and it drys really hard and filled the hole, bit of sillican to smooth the edges and the sprayed it with matt black paint and burnt it to the test centre..... all in 15 mins looks con vincing to me....... obviously it getting sorted properly asap tho....... and here is a couple a pic on the ramp......
escort new boy Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 quick thinkin m8 with the 15mins to go

Don't think theyve even noticed it Will be sorting it now its off the road
Admin Mk2Jo Posted October 5, 2006 Admin Report Posted October 5, 2006 Nice one mate ... make sure you get it sorted though or it will only get worse
RedexRob Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Nice feeling when its passed...time on your side again , just done our two cars, straight through !!! Get that hole sorted though , you don,t want the engine to get all dirty do you !
Gibson Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 well blagged.... its still technically a fail but im guessing they dint find it lol
steve mk2 Posted October 6, 2006 Author Report Posted October 6, 2006 yer well atleast i got the paperwork to say i can legally drive now if i faild i would have had to walk to work tomorow morning at 530am
Jimsiss Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 My bro used to work in a garage so he knows the testers there and they would let him get away with minor things as long as it wasn't a major safety thing we just took his polo in and it only just passed due to the tester running it through the emissions several times to get it to pass
Gibson Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 lol we do that too any car because failing it on emissions is a pain in the arsehole... you can normally get them too pass after a good hard drive
