Trevmk3 Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 finally got round to putting a rear axle on the car this morning, but im having problem getting the propshaft into the gearbox. this effort is causing more damage to me than the car but is now starting to annoy me . first time i hit my head on the exhuast moved my head away and smashed it into the drive then just now i had it fall onto my cheekbone , so the question is can anyone tell me how the hell to get the propshaft in, ive had the vernier gauge on the old and new and they are the same, x-flow box, single piece prop. Cheers Trev
mk1mexico Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 should slide in real easy mate theres something wrong by the sounds of it
Gareth Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Count the number of splines on your prop and on the output shaft of ur box m8.
Trevmk3 Posted October 7, 2006 Author Report Posted October 7, 2006 good point that i will have to check
Trevmk3 Posted October 8, 2006 Author Report Posted October 8, 2006 cheers for that gareth, the number of splines is different. i was thinking they would be the same
Gareth Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 Just outta interest how many splines is either, as I have a prop I dont need, maybe we could swap
Trevmk3 Posted October 8, 2006 Author Report Posted October 8, 2006 i need one with 16, this prop has 19 or 20(its got a big gap on each side) large flange. ive also got a 2 piece with 16 splines large flange
Gareth Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 My prop's a single piece with 16 splines Dunno about the flange, I know it was bolted to a std 1300 diff. How good are the uj's
Trevmk3 Posted October 8, 2006 Author Report Posted October 8, 2006 joints are good, will get some photos up today or tomorrow, measure up the hole pitch on the flange.
deluxe Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 fit it to the gearbox before you bolt it to the rear axle
escort21 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Slide the prop into the gearbox tailshaft BEFORE you bolt up the flange...won't go in any other way...as deluxe says
