mk14dr Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 does anyone have the horseshoe clip for the speedo cable on a mk1 escort xflow (gearbox end)? apparently not knowing how fast/slow your going is an offence in the eyes of the law.
escortmad79 Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I drove around for 3 years without a speedo cable in my Mex replica & the previous owner did the same
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Yeah, your right, it is an offence, but the worst will be a speeding ticket. On an MoT, the fact that there is a speedo fitted is usually enough. Obviously, if there is no cable, that is different as they will quite easily see that from under the car. As long as you don't say anything to a copper, there is no way they can check, or even suspect there is anything wrong. No speedo is 100% accurate, and if a copper wants to book you for speeding, they have to have an extra speedo/speed equipment fitted, and it must be calibrated every now and then. You are also within your legal rights to ask them for proof of the calibration as well.
Mr Sam Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 someone came up with the novel idea the other day.. classic insurance policys with limited milage, remove the speedo cable and use GPS as speed referance
over_head_cam Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 It's only an inside circlip isn't it? Any motor factors should have loads
