Paul F Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Is there a simple way to work out what ratio a diff has? I have a few lying around and I'm hoping one is a 3.54...
scruffythefirst Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 turn the input shaft 10 times and count the number of turns of the output. Or take the backplate off and count the teeth on the crownwheel and the pinion. Some ford diffs have the ratio written on the crownwheel too.
V8ian Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 divide the number of teeth on the crown wheel by the number of teeth on the pinion Ian
Alan G Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 I said I'd try this on my Mk1 seems that I've been wondering what sort of diff is in it... turned the drive shaft 10 times and counted the number of times the wheel rotated -----> It was in the region of 5.5 - 5.7
