Just when i thought nothing else could go wrong with my cossie escort...........the gearbox has given up the ghost

With my new found power i was starting to get clutch slip on full boost, but i thought i could live with that for the moment and would at least get to race it this w/end, :? But on the odd occasion it was also getting stuck in 3rd and 5th gear, well tonight it got worst, and was a real pi.g to get out of 3rd gear, so the car is off the road for the moment untill i get a new g/box :sad:

Will it ever end :evil::evil:

You aren't half having a rough time with that car, what box is it?

Standard cossie box nate, T5 I think they are called.

Yup T5 is a cossie box, I'd always thought they were supposed to be bullet proof

same here. i heard they were very heavy duty and rarely broke

im on my 4th t5 now ian,try the gearboxman he does rebuilds at half decent money m8,parajon has just had his rebuilt as well by someone for decent money as well i thinkpm him.they are meant to be good for over 400 hp tho

Sorry to hear that fella. T5's have poo syncros on third, thats where they always go. Even if you cant get a cheap recon, they usually go on eBay for about £300 or you could stick a TVR T5 in there!

I thought the only difference between a Cos T5 and TVR T5 was the remote linkage.. the ratios in the mustang T5 are different though.

Bernie (the gearboxman ) would be my choice... cap in hand, on knees begging, saying your racing at Santapod in the OSFDC and see what he can do.. but be quick, hes in Luton, so get there today and ...

Cinders, you may just make the ball.

I thought the TVR box had close ratios?

Ah well, everydays a school day

I'm not too sure myself.. but with V8 torque you dont need CR's ..normally.

Its mechanicky bitz... horrible oil bits that i hate.. always getting in the way of where i want to put the driver and suspension pickups, so to me engine blocks and gearbox's are just metal bags of crap that get in the way

Think the main shaft is also shorter or longer for the TVR (I cant remember which)

When people say they are "bullet proof" they are......to an extent. The chances are Ian your box has never been re-built from new and started off with at least 200bhp going through it till somebody tweaked the engine to what it is now. They get flogged hard because thats why we have them, you dont go to all the trouble of buying/fitting a cossie turbo to drive it like Miss Daisy :D .

I bought mine for £250 off TS knowing that it would need a re-build and it did.

Mine was done by Glebe Engineering in Stoke, they replaced everything with the "standard" parts which are apparently good for up to 400bhp (which I have)or you can have the parts that Glebe developed for the TVR race teams which he also sells, not sure about the price on them.

My box cost £627.45 which also included the carriage.

I highly reccomend them, they have done a great job.

Ask for Nick (he's the owner) as he knows what he is talking about and will be able to advise you better than I, if you decide to call him.

His number is 01782 599161, but I dont think you will get it back off him for a good 2 weeks or so.

Oh and bad luck with it mate. You just need to think that once this is done, thats all the major parts sorted.....except for the axle......sorry....I'll get me coat

Nice thought Gary, :? but i m afraid time is deffo against me on this one mate,

Thamks Jon, now i ve just gotta decide whether to buy another box and have it rebuilt, or just take my one out and get it sorted. :?
