D'ellortos have far more jets etc available to allow for fine tuning, there are some simple pro's like the fact the fuel inlet is on the opposite side to a weber can make for better bulkhead clearance etc... handy on Anglias.

Your Snap-on Mac analgy was a good one... they both do the same job and the people who specialise in one make will always tell you theirs is best.

"the range of mixture adjustment on DellOrtos is much better - the atomisation of fuel is much better. As a result they can be more economical if set up properly. They are also cheaper to buy.

The downside is finding someone who can set them up.There is a UK concessionaire, DellOrto UK who do an excellent range of spares and are very quick to supply. These folk have been the UK dealers for nigh on 40 years. They may even be able to suggest a start point setting for the carbs.

Whichever you decide on you will need to get them set up on a rolling road - I suggest Northampton Motorsport as one possibility as they have an excellent reputation. They are not cheap and an alternative for you might be CC Engines in Reading.

I've always run DellOrto carbs on my tuned cars, 1300 and 1600 Escort and 2300 Chevette. Where folk with Webers were getting 5 or 6 mpg in competition and about 20 on the road I would get 18mpg competing even with the biggest engined car and around 25 or 26 mpg on the road.

I currently have a set off a 1600 Alfa on mine and whilst they need fine tuning they have been perfectly OK so far without."

Not that this helps much but I've got a pair of Weber 40's that came off

my Capri if you're interested. Mines now running 45's so the 40's are just sat in a box in the garage.

Sensible offer secures

I would seriously recommend dellorto's over webers mate. From personal experience, they are easier to fit. the linkages are nicer to use and as said earlier, the fuel inlet is in a better position. Dellorto's all the way for me!

Now I have to say I've never heard anyone say that about D'ellorto linkages, the one on my set up was clunky and horrible, it was a big plate that bolted over the top of the carb.

In the end Dave at Retro Ford made an adaptor bracket to bolt on a Weber linkage and its been sweet as from the word go.

But other than that... totally agree with all thats been said.. I'm happy with mine
